Job Description

Nevada State College (NSC) invites applications for the position of "Nevada Water" student team member. The Student Worker will contribute to the work of the NSF-funded Nevada Water team, comprised of faculty from NSC, DRI, and UNR (link to press release.). This student will be heavily involved in planning and implementing a series of online conversations with stakeholders across Nevada, liaising with UNR and DRI faculty, completion of research on federal, state, local, and non-profit state organizations involved in important water policies in Nevada, and facilitating conversations with stakeholders around important, but sometimes contentious issues around water. In addition, the students will participate in 3 one-day field experiences where professionals will go out together to see field operations, as well as a 2-day conference in January 2023, where more planning for the second phase of the project will be completed.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Attending online meetings of the Nevada Water team, making recommendations for future areas of emphasis, debriefing with Edmonds to determine areas where knowledge gaps exists, and addressing those knowledge gaps through research.
  • Complete extensive research and synthesis of findings on current water issues in Nevada.
  • Assist with special efforts to facilitate conversations with Nevada stakeholders in southern Nevada through online conversations.
  • Summarize conversations amongst Nevada Water stakeholders to identify key areas for emphasis for next phase of project.
  • Participate in online small group conversations, one-day field experiences, and 2-day conference proceedings.
  • Interact with the NSC community via social media to promote interest in the Nevada Water project


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be in good academic standing and maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher
  • Must be enrolled as a degree seeking student with a minimum of 6 credits in the current or upcoming semester at NSC.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (NSC does not sponsor employment-related visas)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with students, staff and faculty effectively
  • Passion for learning about the organizational structure in federal, state and local agencies involved in water resource management
  • Strong written and oral communication skills including presentation skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Interest in climate change outreach and education
  • Strong support for a welcoming and inclusive Nevada State culture

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Majoring in Environmental and Resource Science
  • Training in Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity either in previous job or through academic experiences
  • Interest in environmental justice issues and sensitivity to the need for inclusive curricular experiences


Work Hours:

Student employees can work up to 19.5 hours per week.

Hourly Rate:

$12.00 per hour
