Job Summary: The PACE Scholarship Program seeks students interested in supporting PACE students as a mentor and peer leader. Our goal is to provide a productive, welcoming, and inclusive learning environment that will guide students toward study practices, success strategies and aides that help them excel in high school and college. We expect our new hires to embrace and practice our departmental values and culture. Our department also offers content-specific workshops and project/research-based learning opportunities. PACE Peers hold responsibilities such as being able to answer general student questions, attending peer leader meetings and trainings, perform outreach, provide customer service, and other duties as assigned. This is a pooled position, and the department reviews applications as positions become available.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties: Under the supervision of a PACE Advisor, Peer Mentors will:

Assist in recruitment efforts for the PACE Scholarship program
Mentor 9th - 12th grade PACE students through one-on-one interactions and group settings
Support the transition of PACE students to SLCC
Participate consistently in appropriate follow-up, documentation, and evaluation activities, including, but not limited to: checking and responding to email, text, phone calls and other communication means
Participate in PACE event planning and execution
Create a welcoming environment for students
Meet with supervisor on a recurring basis or as needed to go over completed peer mentor tasks
Attend all other scheduled activities, events, staff meetings and meetings related to the program.

Minimum Qualifications:

Current or prior SLCC student
2.0 GPA or higher
Must be eligible to work in the United States

Preferred Qualifications: Preference will go to candidates who are: Bilingual Current or prior PACE Scholar Experience mentoring first-generation students

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Communicate effectively (in writing and verbally) with a wide range of diverse individuals. Demonstrate excellent customer service skills, cultural competencies, and sensibilities. Work collaboratively with other office staff, a variety of campus departments and community personnel. Gather, process, and organize large amounts of information accurately. Utilize basic computer operating systems and SLCCs computer systems (Banner, DegreeWorks). Demonstrate professionalism. Knowledge of HB 144 and other Undocumented Student resources. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.

Non-Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

Special Instructions: Worksite will primarily be at Highland High School.Schedule is negotiable, between hours of 8:00am - 4:30pmPart-time, approximately 10-20 hours a week
