Job Summary: Work in the Academic Advising office as the initial contact for students and guests to the department. Perform receptionist duties in a positive, cheerful, professional, and enthusiastic manner. Provide frontline support throughout the year by assisting students with making advising appointments, assisting with basic questions, making appropriate referrals, and supporting colleagues in a team environment. Work location will be in person at the SLCC South City Campus.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties: Provide a warm and welcoming environment to all incoming students and guests of the Academic Advising office. Assist students in checking in to see their advisor. Proactively notify advisors of demand of services. Monitor the purpose of student visits and, if necessary, redirect students to other services as needed. Make students aware of waiting times when visiting an advisor for an appointment or as a walk-in. Refer students to campus resources. Access the department and college website for information to provide students with quick answers to frequently asked questions. Provide support to office staff as needed.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued:

Minimum Qualifications: One year of work experience in related services.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with higher education.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Dependable and reliable. Excellent interpersonal skills (i.e. listening skills, collaboration, negotiation). Cheerful disposition working with people over the phone and in person. Ability to understand the functions of Student Affairs offices. Computer literacy in using various software and the SLCC website. Organize and prioritize multiple tasks. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, and ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
