Our internationally recognized team of research experts have one goal - to make breakthroughs in the prevention and treatment of disease so that we all may live longer, healthier lives.

Job Summary

The position requires the daily performance of complex chemical, biological and animal tissue preparation in the setting of a basic science research lab. Perform research on mouse models of human disease: Managei a moderately-sized mouse colony comprising some 20 unique strains derived primarily from CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing. A deep understanding of mouse breeding practices, PCR-based genotyping, and tissue isolations is required. Careful record keeping and database management of the mice is also an integral component. Help direct postdocs and students with their own mouse studies. Engage in cutting-edge genome editing technologies the lab is developing and performing molecular biology assays (eg, Western blotting, qRT-PCR).

Responsibilities

The duties include, but are not limited to:

Breeding: Setting up cohorts of mice for breeding and maintaining an orderly colony room for foundation mice. Breeding involves both 1:1 (male:female) and harem breeding (up to 1:3, male:female). In addition, timed matings for embryo collection will occasionally be needed. Tamoxifen administration is needed for specific strains used to conditionally delete a gene or activate a reporter used in fluorescence microscopy.

Wean/Genotype: Weaning, ear punching, and genotyping foundation colony mice, which includes PCR, gel electrophoresis, and documentation of gels with accurate labeling and upkeep in notebook. Euthanasia of mice to keep mouse census low is of critical importance.

Records: Maintaining, on a daily basis, database of foundation colony of ~20 unique strains of mice. Updating the `white board' for real time visualization of strain numbers, age, etc. Maintain daily notebook for use in breeding and setting up cages in colony room.

Experiments: Assisting postdocs and students with experimental mice held, including assistance with genotyping, euthanasia, and tissue harvesting for downstream applications.

Applications: Assist postdocs and students with downstream applications of mouse tissue harvesting, including Western
blotting, qRT-PCR, and immunostaining of sections of tissues.

Ordering/Maintenance: Cross-coverage ordering, and lab maintenance as needed.

New Protocols: Develop new PCR protocols and 'Genotyping Schematics' for facile genotyping and training purposes.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in research, basic science, or a clinical setting particularly clinical trials research and minimum of two years of applicable experience.
