Position Information

Hiring Department: The Diana Natalicio Institute

Hours: 40 hours per week, standard Monday- Friday 8:00am- 5:00pm

FLSA status: Exempt

Earliest Start Date: As soon as possible.

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. A valid driver's license issued by the State where the applicant resides and insurability as defined in UTS 157 may be required to perform the position's essential functions.



Purpose of Position

Under limited supervision and with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment, coordinates formative evaluations for NODE project (see below) to raise the effectiveness of educational experiences, persistence, and retention of Hispanic/Latinx students in community colleges and four-year institutions and broaden participation in the STEM workforce. Plans, assigns, and/or supervises the work of others.



Essential Functions

Plans, conducts, monitors, and analyzes research projects to include data collection, qualitative and quantitative data analysis, interpreting results, developing nonstandard tests, recommending technology-based solutions, or determining evaluation strategies; formulates and monitors long-range research objectives, programs, and priorities; reviews, analyzes, and evaluates the impact of legislation, regulations, and policies affecting current research.



Assists in formulation of research objectives and programs and determines the scope of methodologies of research projects and areas to be evaluated; provides consultation relating to research design, planning, instrumentation, statistical analysis, and reporting; works with researchers on the development of experiments and interpretation of results for research and teaching.

Assists in developing professional development programs and tools to administering research, demonstration, and evaluation activities and build capacity of evaluators, foster learning and improve effectiveness.



Writes and contributes to technical papers, impact reports, presentations, articles or summary of findings to disseminate results, findings, and emerging frameworks.



Collaborate with evaluators to refine and develop formats and structure of professional development and learning communities, including conducting a needs assessment of evaluation at NSF funded HSIs, including organizational structures, skills, experience, and practice of culturally responsive evaluation.

Collects, compiles, and analyzes research data to include the use of use of statistical methods and relational databases to analyze data sets; prepares and provides presentations for professional organizations, governmental entities, and the public; communicates research results through conference presentations, scientific publications, or project reports.



Attend team meetings, make contributions from research, knowledge and experience.



Develop a repository, clearinghouse of resources and links that are publicly available to promote best practices in culturally responsive/sustaining evaluation that community of HSI evaluators can expand/build on.

May participates in proposal writing and coordination for external funds for equipment acquisitions; may be a Principal Investigator or Co-Co-Principal Investigator.



Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems.



Complies with all State and University policies.



Other duties may be assigned.



Supervisory Responsibilities Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's objectives, policies and applicable laws.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Required Qualifications:

Education: PhD degree in program evaluation, education, psychology, sociology, or related field

and

Experience: Four years of experience related to the statement of duties and responsibilities. Responsible for generating external funds to supplement/sustain a percentage of salary. Knowledge of statistical concepts and methods and their application to research analysis; of measurement, testing, and evaluation; and of research methods, principles, techniques, and philosophies. Skilled in conducting qualitative and quantitative research and in using computers, software, and statistical tools and programs. Ability to plan, organize, and oversee research projects, evaluate research data, ensure the development of measuring instruments with respect to reliability, relevance, and validity, interpret and publish research findings, and communicate effectively

The Diana Natalicio Institute for Hispanic Student Success was founded in 2021 to serve as a national resource that leads knowledge creation and partnerships to advance equitable postsecondary opportunity structures and systems. To enact this vision, the Institute (1) generates and disseminates research to strengthen institutional capacity for student success, (2) develops faculty, staff, and administrative leaders who are poised to transform higher education to become more culturally responsive to diverse communities, and (3) influences policies and programs that support Hispanic-Serving Institutions' roles in broadening educational opportunities for historically underrepresented students. The Institute works collaboratively to expand its partnership network, both internally and externally to UTEP, and seeks candidates who are enthusiastic about contributing to the larger purpose of the Institute as members of a growing team.



Network of Opportunities for Effective and Equitable Evaluation project (NODE)

The NODE project is a Center for Evaluation and Research Synthesis (CERS) and is funded by the National Science Foundation's HSI-Network Program. The project will yield culturally sustaining HSI STEM evaluation approaches and applications that recognize HSIs' institutional diversity, various ways to measure HSI servingness, and intersectionality among NSF HSI Program. Participants. It will achieve this by creating a database and analytical techniques, providing technical support to NSF HSI Programs, generating impact reports, and refining a research framework of HSI servingness.
