About the Position:

This role is an on-campus, in-person position. The position is a full-time, 11 month position.

The Honors and Scholars Program Coordinator will provide operational support to the Hilltop Scholars Program.

The coordinator will support the Scholars Den Program Specialist in maintaining the physical space, Scholars Den and Honors and Scholars internal communications, and student programming within the space.

The coordinator will also provide occasional support to the Directors of UHP, RTSC, PS, and Mustang Scholars for select events.

This position will start June 1st.

Essential Functions:

  • HSP Program Student Interactions. Manage student advisory board and student workers for the program. Foster strong relationships with 1st year students , coordinate outreach to HSP students during their 2nd to 4th years. Assist the program director and faculty by monitoring academic alerts and completing SSR and CCC reports.

  • HSP Program Recruitment. Will work directly with HSP director for all operational needs related to recruitment, selection, and onboarding into the HSP program.

  • HSP Program Management. Work closely with HSP Program Director and Scholars Den Program Specialist to track and monitor students academic enrollment and program outcomes and the HSP operating budget. Support student engagement in off-campus service projects, Lead@SMU, and other campus initiatives.

  • Scholars Den Programming. Create, implement, and manage activities open to all SMU undergraduate students on Friday afternoon and evenings. Help implement and support shared programming for UNIV, H&S, and OEL on the First Friday of the Month, Common Reading, Family Weekend, Homecoming Weekend, and Celebration of Excellence.

  • Scholars Den Communications and Business Operations. Manage communications and shared calendar for the Scholars Den making sure to incorporate activities sponsored by UNIV, OEL and H&S. Maintain a presence on social media (e.g. Instagram) and highlight opportunities for student activities in SMU Connected. Provide back up for all routine scholars den operations and financial tasks (back-up to Scholars Den Program Specialist).

  • H & S shared communications platform (e.g. MS Teams). to improve coordination and information sharing across program directors and staff. Set and organize the weekly H&S meetings, send agenda, take notes, and distribute any relevant information. Provide occasional support to the Directors of UHP, RTSC, PS, and Mustang Scholars for select events.

  • Support the development and management of academic co-curricular activities that would benefit from access to the Scholars Den.

  • Provide occasional support to the University Foundations academic program.
  • Position requires working a modified schedule, including working evenings two days a week from 10 am - 7 pm or 11 am - 8 pm


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree is required.

A minimum of one year of work experience is required.

Experience working as a peer leader, resident assistant, or providing office support in a higher education setting preferred.

Work experience with communications desired. Leadership experience in a student organization is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills. A strong customer service orientation is essential.

Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills. A strong focus on attention to detail is essential. Strong project management skills desired.

Candidate must have a strong working knowledge of MS Office. A strong working knowledge and/or experience with social media platforms desired.
