DESCRIPTION

Mendocino College is currently accepting applications for part-time, Counselor to work with our MESA department and MESA Students.

MESA (Math-Engineering-Science-Achievement). A supportive and inclusive space for STEM learning and academic support. ASSIGNMENT/SALARY

Assignments are made on a part-time, hourly contract basis. A part-time faculty assignment may not exceed a total of 67% of an annual full-time assignment. Salary is determined by the total contract hours. Hourly contract rate is dependent on qualifications ($66.79 - $103.68). Compensation for assigned classes is paid over the duration of the semester.

Benefits: The College offers a Bronze level benefit plan at the cost of the employee.

Paid Time Off: Sick leave is earned based on teaching load percentage.

Retirement: This position may be eligible for CalSTRS Retirement

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

The successful candidate will support student success by providing instructional support and institutional collaboration. This includes the following duties and/or assignments:
Guidance and Counseling:

Assists students in clarifying their educational and career goals, develop comprehensive educational plans and maintain currency as it relates to institutional and/or transfer requirements;
Assists students in becoming more knowledgeable about their aptitudes, interests, values, and achievement levels and considers this information when helping students decide on a major area of study and transfer institution;
Assists students in understanding certificate and degree requirements as well as the various options available to meet requirements;
Teaches students how to view available course offerings and register for courses;
Assists students in planning their selection of courses;
Develops partnerships and collaborates with all instructional and counseling faculty, as well as various programs and departments on campus to maximize student success, promote innovation and maintain accessibility;
Utilizes and stays abreast of advanced counseling methods and student development theories which include integrating technology to support student learning and career objectives;
Refers students who require more specialized counseling and/or services to appropriate agencies in the community;
Assists faculty, administrators, staff, in recognizing student needs, issues and concerns;
Provides intervention services for students such as early alert;
Participates in shared governance committees;
Participates in regularly scheduled counseling department meetings Performs other counseling duties as assigned;
Prepares and maintains academic counseling notes, required forms, and/or paperwork needed to assist students;
Assists with catalog and class schedule review;
Plan and conduct workshops related to the matriculation process;
Assist in planning, developing and implementing effective support for Transfer efforts to a four-year college/university;
Assists in planning, implementing, and evaluation the Counseling program through Program Review;
Assist the Counseling department in developing Service Learning Outcomes;
Assist the departmental planning and implementing staff development activities;
Assist with the curriculum development of College and Career Success Courses;
Serve on a variety of college committees;
Evening or weekend work may be required on occasion, with schedule modified.

QUALIFICATIONS

QUALIFICATIONS
Must meet all Minimum Qualifications Requirements for discipline applied for including:

Master's in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling,

(NOTE: A bachelor's degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist(MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.)

Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, geographic, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Must meet Human Resources guidelines for qualified hiring; including by not limited to a Live Scan background check and completion of TB test.

KNOWLEDGE OF: Current theories of counseling, and related teaching practices; and familiarity with community college mission.

ABILITY TO: Effectively instruct assigned courses using a variety of techniques and methods of delivery; evaluate and develop curriculum and instructional materials; assess student academic progress; maintain records; consistently communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and work collaboratively with colleagues in the department and across the district; teach at variable locations and hours, including evenings, weekends and online.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT(Prior to beginning employment)

In accordance with Federal Law all employees must provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States;
Must be fingerprinted through DOJ and FBI and have background clearance; and Must take a TB test (once hired and every four years thereafter).
Within 6 months of employment, must complete required District trainings such as Sexual Harassment Prevention.
