Salary and Benefits
Starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and will not exceed $4,879 a month.

Conditions of Employment
This is a full time, temporary, exempt position. Reappointment to this position is dependent upon the individual's performance as well as administrative and budgetary considerations. The university reserves the right to terminate this appointment earlier than the scheduled expiration date.

Under general direction to the Director of Outreach Services (Director), the Outreach Coordinator, Upward Bound North performs a wide variety of generally complex Student Services professional work is responsible for case management for Upward Bound North participants and assisting in the coordination of outreach services (e.g., student recruitment, college placement, school outreach) for Upward Bound Sonoma County, Upward Math & Science, and Upward Bound North participants. Assignments require the application of a generally high degree of judgement, tact, persuasiveness, imagination, professional skills, and knowledge in academic advising, as well as a general understanding of the interrelationships and the need for coordinated action within the department, division, and university.

Major duties of the position include, but are not limited to, the following in support of the department of Pre-Collegiate Programs:
- Coordinate and provide academic advisement and outreach to three Upward Bound programs (Upward Bound Sonoma County, Upward Math & Science, and Upward Bound North), ensuring project participants are enrolled in A-G college courses.
- Provide individual and group advising to assure student participation and adherence to program guidelines.
- Help students identify, define, develop, and assess realistic and individualized educational pathways and academic plans.
- Actively participate in initiatives, campaigns, outreach, and events related to Pre-Collegiate programs.
- Assist students to engage in their learning experiences, develop accountability for their decisions, and cultivate an understanding of how those decisions impact their success.
- Provide comprehensive advisement to students through the various pathways to declare or change a major/minor, as well as outline the eligibility implications of these pathways.
- Closely monitor scenarios, and identify opportunities to develop, implement, measure, and improve academic success strategies.
- Assist in the coordination of the Senior Year experience (college placement course) and on-line service learning component for Saturday and Summer Academy.
- Assist the Director with the development and implementation of outreach services policies and procedures.
- Participate in the strategic planning for improvements in outreach services' goals and objectives.
- Recognize program needs and develop approaches for possible implementation to meet those needs. Assist the Director in coordinating liaison work with target school site teachers, counselors, and contacts to ensure academic development of program participants.
- Coordinate academic intervention the development of student Academic Intervention Plans.
- Assist the Director in coordinating a series of career information and internship opportunities for students enrolled in the Upward Bound Sonoma County, Upward Bound Math & Science, and Upward Bound North programs.
- Provide case management for students enrolled in the Upward Bound North program.
- Provide Saturday and Summer Academy program support, including college placement guidance instruction.
- Participate in developing and coordinating recruitment presentations to potential applicants and parents; review applications and participate in the selection process, including coordinating interview of applicants and parents.
- Provide recruitment statistical updates to the Director.
- Participate in the development and implementation of a summer residential component for program participants, including coordinating live in and lead responsibilities of the residential staff.
- Closely monitor student progress and the maintenance of student records over the project period, including alumni participants; documenting outreach services and producing detailed reports; referring students to appropriate community/social agencies for support; and making presentations to staff and student groups regarding issues related to the programs.

Performs other secondary duties as assigned.

Duties will take place in an office setting located at Sonoma State and off site at target high schools throughout Sonoma County. Additional duties may be performed in various locations on the Sonoma State University campus, including working both indoors and outdoors to support and participate in university activities and events. As an exempt employee, you have some flexibility in your schedule however must be available during the regular campus hours Monday through Friday to meet the operational needs of the campus and department. Your specific start time is determined by your Appropriate Administrator. Evening and weekend hours may be required and will be specified only by the supervisor to meet operational needs. The incumbent must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such levels as is determined by the Appropriate Administrator. This position will require occasional travel, by automobile, bus, or airplane, and overnight stay to travel to trainings, field trip, and meetings off campus.

Qualifications
Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. A master's degree in related field of study may be substituted for one year of experience. This position requires the equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related. A master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of work experience. Two years' experience with TRIO, academic support, or similar programs, including two years' experience working with low-income, first-generation minority or disadvantaged students required. Additional education beyond Bachelor's Degree and/or certifications and training in areas appropriate to the position and demonstrated success in overcoming obstacles similar to that of the target population preferred.

Thorough knowledge of the principles or individual and group behavior, and the ability to articulate the purpose of Pre-Collegiate Programs, student success, and academic advising programs. General knowledge and experience of programs and resources that support the persistence and academic success of pre-college students, particularly at-risk student populations. Intermediate proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) required. Knowledge of Student Access and PeopleSoft preferred.

- Experience and/or sensitivity working with a diverse student population, including those from low-income, first-generation backgrounds.
- Coordinate academic and motivational development workshops for low-income and first-generation college students.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the college preparation and placement processes.
- Develop positive interpersonal relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
- Learn and effectively apply a variety of state, federal, CSU, and SSU policies and procedures.
- Independently plan work, solve problems, and use sound judgment to take action.
- Ability to recognize program needs and offer approaches for possible implementation to meet those needs.
