Job Summary

Inspire Awesome with Eastern Washington University! We are currently seeking an exceptional and experienced candidate to join our Information Technology Division. The Information Technology Division (IT) provides comprehensive, campus-wide IT leadership, implementation, maintenance, and support. This structure affords EWU with a comprehensive IT strategy for implementation and support that provides a cost-effective, efficient IT infrastructure aligning with the institution's mission, vision, and goals.


The Oracle WebLogic Engineer (ITS 5) will function at the expert level and will be responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the WebLogic systems at Eastern Washington University by implementing, managing, and maintaining the WebLogic system environment. This position will provide expert level support to designated end-users and provide professional application administration to the Information Technology Division. Additionally, this position will independently consult, analyze, design, develop, program, troubleshoot and resolve problems for major tasks, projects for university-wide initiatives, both high-risk/high-impact and/or for mission critical systems and applications. This position is also responsible for proper planning, management, and operation of the university's WebLogic systems, to include developing, supporting and ensuring the reliability, stability, and integrity of the applications hosted via WebLogic. Additional areas of responsibility involve design, documentation, hands-on installation of new equipmentapplications, enhancing and streamlining existing applications, replacing and restructuring of legacy systems, providing quality assurance and delivery of analysis of data and systems for the University. This environment will rely heavily upon virtualization technologies. Overall this position will be responsible for Web Application Server Engineering, system administration, quality assurance, developing and enhancing existing critical support systems and servers, integrating these technologies with business needs, maintenance and complex troubleshooting of EWU technology environment.

Physical Demands

Required Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Master's degree in Software Engineering.

  • Oracle Certified Associate (OCA) for WebLogic Server 11g or above.

  • Oracle Certified Associate (OCA) for Database Administration 11g or above.

  • Oracle Fusion, SAP Process integration or Equivalent Middleware certification.

  • Linux certification: LPIC-1 (Linux Server Professional Certification, Level 1), RHCSA (Red Hat Certified System Administrator) or Equivalent certification.

  • ITIL Service Management Foundation Certification

  • 5+ years of experience with WebLogic in installing, configuring, deploying and troubleshooting enterprise applications.

  • Broad understanding and extensive experience with Ellucian Banner products.

  • Must possess experience managing, deploying and administering enterprise Linux/Unix Systems and Services in a Data Center or Cloud Hosting Environment using one or more of the following tools:

    • Shell Scripting

    • Python Scripting

    • Ansible

    • Docker



  • Broad experience in web development, scripting, parsing log files, retrieving system stats from Java Server and Tomcat pages.

  • A comprehensive understanding of TCP/IP, HTTP, SSL/TLS standards.

  • Have experience working in enterprise environments with systems supporting 500+ users.

  • Ability to work independently and the ability to prioritize and work multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.


Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility and/or diversity.




Preferred Qualifications:

  • Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) for WebLogic Server 11g or above.

  • Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) for Database Administration 11g or above.

  • 5+ years of experience scripting experience with Python, Shell Scripting and/or Perl

  • 5+ years of deep seated experience with Oracle, Apache, NFS, MySQL, Active Directory, MSSQL

  • 5+ years of Enterprise Experience with web application server administration

  • Thorough understanding of Java programming

  • Experience with Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS)




Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to comply with all University policies and standards.
