SUMMARY:

Performs assigned duties to aid the physician in his/her diagnosis and treatment of a patient's illness. Performs all laboratory procedures ordered by the physician. Laboratory procedures include hematology, serology, blood chemistry and urinalysis.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs all laboratory procedures ordered by the physician, i.e., hematology, serology, blood chemistry, urinalysis, etc.
  • Draws blood specimens and prepares all specimens for testing to be done either in the infirmary or in a reference laboratory
  • Takes vital signs and histories on patients before they are seen by the Doctor
  • Cleans laboratory and orders lab supplies
  • Performs allergy shots and vaccine injections
  • Cleans and stocks injection rooms
  • Works with students on receiving and managing allergy serums
  • Administers Depo-Provera injections
  • Prepares labs for pick-up from lab company
  • Handles all STD testing
  • Reports testing results to the state
  • Places orders into lab portal for ordering through CPL
  • Notifies patients of lab results and schedules follow-up appointments
  • Contributes to the effective team management of all relevant problems, issues, and opportunities


This job description shall include, but is not necessarily limited to, the above duties. May temporarily perform other duties assigned to maintain operations and services.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year experience
  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Two (2) years' experience
  • Ability to: Must be able to perform basic lab functions
  • Licensing/Professional Certifications: Must have a current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification. CPR certified
  • Marginal functions: Marginal functions will vary with the specific assignment and depend on the particular unit or function for which the person is responsible. Consideration will be given on a case by case basis and reassignment of marginal duties will be made when appropriate.


PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:
  • Education: Some college
  • Experience: Three (3) years experience
  • Ability to: perform Veni-puncture, administer EKGs and injections
