Position Summary
The Learning Spaces Tech is responsible for the technical daily operation of the classrooms and conference spaces at the Rose Hill campus. This includes keeping integrated audiovisual systems and classroom computers in good working order by performing routine maintenance, spot checks, and break fixes. On occasion, the Learning Spaces Technician may have to deliver and set up portable equipment in a classroom or event space.
The Learning Spaces Technician supervises student workers during and ensures that the student workers are responsive to service desk calls- logging and resolving service requests. The Learning Spaces Technician assigns student resources as needed for classroom and event support. The Learning Spaces Tech maintains and controls inventory of loaner assets. The Learning Spaces Tech assists with the installation of new integrated systems and upgrades hardware in classrooms as necessary.
The Learning Spaces Tech reports to the Director of Learning Spaces and Events Management and receives daily direction from the director for specific tasks. The Learning Spaces Tech reports back to the director and escalates unresolved issues in a timely manner. The Learning Spaces Tech is a team player who works with other members of the IT Client Services team to resolve all relevant faculty, staff, and student concerns. The shift for this position is from 2PM until 10PM, Monday through Friday.
Essential Functions
Technical management and daily operation of integrated audiovisual systems
- Monitors systems from Extron Global Viewer
- Monitors AV network switch reports
- Uses Extron Global Viewer and Extron Global Configurator to resolve issues
- Performs spot checks, including visual and tactile inspection of systems
- Troubleshoots and performs repairs of systems as necessary
- Performs preventive maintenance of AV systems on a quarterly basis
Service desk management
- Supervises student workers who are on telephone support
- Reviews service tickets assigned to the Learning Spaces group
- Generates service tickets in Easy Vista and resolves issues
- Escalates service issues to Director as necessary
- Provides excellent customer service experience for internal and external constituents
Classroom and event support
- Assigns student workers to assist teaching faculty as needed
- Assists with Zoom set ups for classes and administrative meeting
- Approves room assignments and resource requests in 25Live
- Works with conference coordinators across the university to schedule technical resources
- Sets up microphones, audio mixers, webcams, and portable AV equipment as needed
Computer deployment and maintenance
- Configures desktop computers for deployment in classrooms
- Updates computer asset information in Easy Vista
- Deploys software packages as necessary
- Ensures Windows updates have been processed as per the scheduled maintenance windows
Loaner equipment and asset management
- Processes equipment checkouts using Cheqroom
- Generates reports of loaner assets from Cheqroom
- Reconciles loaner devices with assets in Easy Vista
- Maintains inventory of spare hardware and consumables
General Functions
- Performs basic analysis, diagnosis, and troubleshooting
- Follows project plans
- Communicates regularly with supervisor
- Demonstrates effective listening skills
The shift for this position is from 2PM until 10PM, Monday through Friday.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- 2+ years relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelors degree
- Extron or AVIXA certifications
- CompTIA A+ certification
- Knowledge of audio mixers, audio DSPs, and microphones
- Knowledge of business, academic or other application of technology or technology support services and environment
- Familiar with an IT service management software
- Familiar with teaching environment, curriculum development and processes
- Basic knowledge of higher education culture
- Basic knowledge or skills in the following areas:
- Independent management of own work and outcomes
- Attention to detail and quality
- Knowledge of IT practices and procedures
- Customer service
- Able to interact professionally with staff, faculty and students
- Understanding and following project plans and supervisor direction
- Diagnosing problems and determining whether to resolve or escalate
