Founding Director and Professor of Engineering

Job Summary:

The Founding Director will be the faculty leader for the development and implementation of engineering programming, starting with the undergraduate program. He or she will be a creative, innovative leader with experience both in engineering education and in industry, with a strong interest and experience in engineering education. He or she must be comfortable bringing together a diverse group of stakeholders to refine and implement a shared vision for an engineering program that is consistent with USF's mission as an institution that values diversity, social justice, and educating students to be women and men in the service of others.

Job Responsibilities:

The Founding Director will:
Work with the current faculty curriculum committee to complete the undergraduate engineering curriculum, and then lead its delivery once the program is launched.
Develop pre-launch activities to highlight and promote engineering at USF.
Partner with faculty and the Deans office to develop professional Masters programs in engineering.
Serve as a primary faculty voice as we renovate our current science building to support engineering.
Collaborate with Strategic Enrollment Management to recruit and retain an undergraduate class that meets USFs goals and expectations.
Build and lead an engineering department, including recruiting current faculty to interdisciplinary appointments and leading the search for new faculty members.
Partner with the Deans office and Development to raise funds to support the School.
Work with the Dean and Provost to develop an Advisory Board.

Minimum Requirements:

An earned doctorate in an engineering discipline, along with a record of distinguished research suitable for achievement of tenure.
Leadership experience, either in higher education or industry.
A strong record of teaching at the university level.
An understanding of and commitment to support the mission of the University of San Francisco.
In addition, the successful candidate should possess the following qualifications:
Experience with curriculum design and ABET accreditation.
A track record of building connections with industry, government, nonprofit, or other external partners.
An entrepreneurial, forward-looking mindset.
Strong interpersonal communication and management skills.
An understanding of the unique qualities of a Jesuit education and the ways in which engineering can promote Jesuit values.
