Facilities Services' responsibilities include Interior and Exterior Facilities Support, Construction, Space Management, and Environmental Services.

Job Summary

Facilities Specialist 2 (Sign Maker): This is a journeyman position responsible for fabricating and repairing signage and other identification devices for university buildings. Assignments must be performed according to the AU Signage standards and ADA guidelines. The position will complete routine building maintenance tasks. Will also be responsible for administrative duties related to completion of maintenance tasks. Position may occasional require mandatory overtime and adjusted work schedule to support after hours work assignments.

Responsibilities

Responsible for design, layout, fabrication, and installation of interior and exterior signs in accordance with AU signage standards using drawing instruments, computers, and computer-aided equipment, paint spray guns, power hand tools and a variety of power shop tools. This work is in support of construction, renovations routine work orders and facilities project requests which requires meeting with customers, working from plans or drawings, estimating time and materials, planning and scheduling work and coordination with other trades and AU personnel.

Responsible for using computer-aided engraving machine to engrave metals and plastics to create ADA signage, name plates, and/or equipment tags. Responsible for using vinyl sign equipment and laminator for signage. Able to perform vinyl work techniques, for cutting, weeding, and transferring vinyl to substrate.

Performs scheduled preventative maintenance inspections of existing buildings, facilities, and equipment to document and determine needed repairs and sign modifications.

Creates temporary signage (e.g., caution or warning signs, directional signs, etc.) required by Facilities Operations or other AU departments to support special operations or functions on a temporary basis.

Performs some administrative duties such as completing information necessary to close out work orders and departmental requests.

Performs incidental duties such as erecting and moving scaffolding and ladders, operation of manlifts, and the operation of motor vehicles.

Performs annual training as assigned.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

High school diploma, GED or equivalent from a recognized state or federal accredited organization. Three years' experience in graphic design, signage, or related work experience.

Other Required Qualifications

Must have a valid state driver's license and be qualified to operate Augusta University vehicles.

Special requirements: Required to pass pre-employment physical to ensure good health necessary to perform job tasks and to qualify for the use of a respirator.

Preferred Experience

A degree from an accredited college or university in graphic design, fine arts, or design and visual communication.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

ABILITIES

Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Knowledge of graphic design, sign making trade and building construction. Ability to interpret ADA guidelines relating to signage and ability to interact and communicate well with others. Skills using sign making equipment and sign related computer software for the design and layout of signage.

Shift: Days: Monday - Friday

Pay Grade: 9

Salary Minimum: $15.00/hourly - $16.20/hourly

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
