Position Summary:
Establishment of Department Pool for Affiliate/Part-Time Instructors of English for the DIME program in Detroit. Qualified applicants will be placed in the departmental pool and will be considered for affiliate/part-time departmental needs beginning Fall 2019 through Spring 2022.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Teach one to nine credit hours. Teaching areas are: First Year Writing courses. Instructors should be prepared to teach in person at DIME in Detroit, MI.

Affiliate faculty are part-time, at-will employees hired to teach on a per credit hour basis for specific classes, as needed, usually on a semester by semester basis. Affiliate Faculty members are not eligible for benefit coverage under the Universitys benefit program. All such teaching assignments are dependent on budget and enrollment. An Affiliate Faculty members duties include: meeting assigned classes or delivering on-line content consistent with University, College, School, and Department policies; providing instruction in assigned classes consistent with the content and learning objectives of the regular course syllabus and, if appropriate, with department course coordination policies; being available to meet students in assigned classes, and participating in required professional development opportunities and program assessment activities; and complying with university-wide student evaluation of instruction policies and peer observation policies.

The University is particularly interested in applicants who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for under-represented groups.

The successful candidate must have experience working with and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse urban student population including (but not limited to) students of color, LBGTQIA students, students from low-income backgrounds, first-generation students, students with disabilities, undocumented students, non-traditional students, student veterans, and English-language learners.

Required Qualifications:
Masters degree in English or closely related field; or alternatively, Masters of Education plus 18 hours in the field of English.

Preferred Qualifications:
Masters or Doctorate in Rhetoric and Composition.
