Deputy Athletic Director

UIW Mission


Position Summary
The Deputy Athletic Director serves as the primary advisor and liaison to Athletic Director and assists in the direction of the Intercollegiate Athletic Program by providing leadership in a manner consistent with the University's mission. The Deputy Athletic Director oversees all external departments and all related employees. The Deputy Athletic Director coordinates and leads department-wide revenue generation efforts, while also serving as the department's Major Gift Officer (MGO). Responsibilities as the MGO include cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation of gifts (in collaboration with the Division of Development and University Relations). The position supports the day-to-day leadership of UIW's 23 varsity programs, while serving as the sport administrator for specific teams.

This position is considered a Responsible Employee under Title IX federal regulations and Mandatory Reporter under Texas state law and The UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter, this position requires you as the employee to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive information about violating Title IX. These reporting responsibilities are set out in the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
-Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills;
-Personal computer applications, including proficiency in MS Office Suite;
-Ability to provide leadership and direction;
-Ability to effectively and creatively manage complex issues, supervise staff, develop, analyze and monitor complicated budgets;
-Strong interpersonal skills;
-Self-motivated;
-Ability to interact with individuals at all levels in the department, the University and the University community;
-Energetic self-starter and exercise sound judgment;
-Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures;
-Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA


Required Education


Required Work Experience
Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in intercollegiate athletics revenue
generation including, but not limited to, fundraising (major gifts) and sponsorship sales


Preferred Qualifications
-Masters degree or other advanced degree;
-Seven (7) years of experience
in intercollegiate athletics revenue generation including, but not limited to, fundraising (major gifts) and sponsorship sales


Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
Valid drivers license and be insurable with UIWs insurance carrier


Work Hours
Must be willing to work nights, weekends and holidays.

Physical Demands
Ability to lift equipment, tools and/or materials weighing up to 25 pounds waist high.
