The College of Business and Public Administration is currently seeking to fill an Associate Dean position on a full time (12 month) contract to perform administrative duties as well as coordinate the college's AACSB accreditation activities, assurance of learning, and graduate programs.


The college includes business programs in traditional business disciplines (Accounting, Finance, Management, Management Information Systems and Marketing) at the undergraduate level. Eastern Washington University is a regional, comprehensive public university with enrollment of over 12,000 students and campuses in Cheney and Spokane, Washington. The college is located on Eastern's Riverpoint Campus in Spokane, and maintains an administrative presence at the main EWU campus in Cheney, a residential suburb 17 miles outside of Spokane. The business programs are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB-International).


Spokane is home to three universities and to health related, medical and other selective programs from the two state doctoral universities. Spokane offers a high quality network of public and private K-12 schools, an extensive community college system, and two major healthcare/hospital systems. Living costs are below the national average and Washington State does not levy an income tax. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in Management or related disciplines. They must be able to demonstrate 1) strong leadership as well as interpersonal and communication skills; 2) an excellent background in Assurance of Learning; 3) have experience promoting cultural competency and/or diversity; 4) an understanding of and experience in distance learning.


The Associate Dean's efforts will be devoted to overseeing the assessment planning and implementation required for AACSB accreditation; monitoring faculty publishing efforts; monitoring currency and accuracy of information entered into the college database; extracting needed reports; working with faculty to continuously adapt the undergraduate and graduate curricula for relevancy and response to constituents needs; and representing the college in university wide committees and events on an as-needed basis.

Conditions of Employment

The associate dean position is a 100% Exempt position to begin September 16, 2019.

The candidate hired for this position is expected to hold a completed doctoral degree in Management or related disciplines; a publication record and experience in academics commensurate to the rank of associate professor with tenure, maintaining a publication rate of three refereed publications in the most current five-year period. As a result of meeting these essential qualifications, the candidate hired for this Associate Dean position will have retreat rights to a tenured faculty position in the appropriate academic discipline.

Required Qualifications:

  • Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in Management or related disciplines.

  • Publication record and experience in academics commensurate to the rank of associate professor with tenure, maintaining a publication rate of three refereed publications in the most current five-year period

  • Experience with each of the following: academic leadership, assessment and specialized professional accreditation

  • Demonstrated strong commitment to quality teaching, research and service

  • Candidates must be able to demonstrate:

    • Strong leadership as well as interpersonal and communication skills;

    • An excellent background in Assurance of Learning;

    • An understanding of and experience in distance learning
