Job Summary: Looking for a great working environment at a community college? An Accessibility Advisor may be just the right job for you! Flexibility is required to serve a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff under the Department of Student Affairs. Under supervision, review, approve, evaluate, and monitor accessibilities accommodations for students with disabilities in line with the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act). Collaborates with faculty, staff, and administrators at Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) to ensure equal access for students with disabilities.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Utilize professional judgment, determine eligibility for services by gathering and reviewing information through the structured interview process, intake information, medical and mental health documentation, firsthand reporting and professional observation and analysis.
  • Provide ongoing advising and guidance to students with disabilities on assigned caseload.
  • Approve ADA accommodations for students with disabilities.
  • Coordinate accommodations with faculty, staff, and other college departments.
  • Provide consultation, intervention, and training as needed.
  • Gather, review, and evaluate documents for eligibility.
  • Write comprehensive case-notes.
  • Review and interpret case management reports.
  • Attend and participate in departmental and college meetings, trainings, committees, and projects as approved by your supervisor.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree with an emphasis in rehabilitation, special education, counseling, career development and training, psychology, social work, or a closely related field (please attach transcripts).
  • Two (2) years direct paid full-time experience (or equivalent direct paid part-time experience) advising, counseling, teaching, training, or working with people with disabilities.
  • Trade-off in education/experience considered on a 2:1 basis.
  • Part-time experience may be considered on a prorated basis.


Preferred Qualifications: Masters degree with emphasis in rehabilitation, special education, counseling, career development and training, psychology, social work, or a closely related field. Experience determining reasonable ADA accommodations. Relevant professional licensure or certification (i.e. CRC, LCSW, LVRC, etc.). Experience working with Health Sciences programs.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of: Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), as amended and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Various disabilities, functional limitations, accommodations, services and assistive technology. Education and planning for individuals with disabilities. The diverse culture of students enrolled in a Community College. Ability to: Interpret disability documentation, which includes medical reports, psychological evaluations, vocational evaluations, IEPs, 504 plans, etc. Approve accessibility accommodations in line with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for students with disabilities. Utilize professional judgment and determine eligibility for services by requesting and reviewing medical and mental health documentation, firsthand reporting and professional observation and analysis. Review information through the structured informational interview process. Provide ongoing advising and guidance to students with disabilities on assigned caseload. Approve ADA accommodations that faculty implement in the classroom. Provide training for staff, faculty and other College departments on accommodations and the ADA. Build collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, and community members. Participate on college committees as assigned. Participate in ongoing professional development. Interact with people in a respectful manner and provide excellent customer service. Handle confidential documents and information. Navigate a computer including word-processing, database management, spreadsheets, and Banner. Work at various campus sites as determined by supervisor-will require travel. Communicative effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, and ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
