Merced College is a midsized community college located in California's Central Valley. The Account Technician I is typically the face of the department: providing quality customer service, working collaboratively with our students, staff, and outside agencies to better serve our diverse student population. General Description:

Under general supervision, performs accounting work involved in the maintenance of financial records; and to do related work as required.

Examples of Duties


Essential Functions:
  • Assists in performing financial record keeping operations, accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Gathers, assembles, posts, and checks financial data
  • Verifies and reconciles statements from outside sources
  • Enters data on computer
  • Makes routine verifications in accordance with established procedures
  • Assists in preparing reports
  • Provides assistance with Financial Aid disbursements
  • Performs bank reconciliations
  • Verifies fund balances
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Knowledge of:
  • Basic accounting principles and office machines
  • Methods, practices, and terminology used in accounting and financial record keeping
  • Computer spreadsheet applications

Ability to:
  • Effectively communicate with students, staff and outside vendors regarding account activity or available payment options
  • Post data and make mathematical calculations rapidly and accurately
  • Maintain records
  • Operate a computer, calculator and other office equipment
  • Use sound judgment
  • Meet deadlines
  • Work cooperatively with others

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required:
  • High school diploma OR GED
    OR
  • The equivalent education and experience
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Work is performed primarily in an office environment with some travel to different sites; incumbents may be required to work extended hours including evenings and weekends.

Interview Information:

Those applicants deemed highly qualified for the position will be invited to appear for oral interviews before a screening committee. A limited number of candidates will be invited to interviews. Interviews will be scheduled onsite.

Permanent part-time employees receive paid holidays as well as prorated vacation and sick leave. While permanent part-time employees are not eligible for health/vision/dental care coverage or group life insurance, the District does offer an optional supplemental benefits suite.
