Classification:Administrative Staff - Full-Time - 12 Months - 2080 Hours

Reports to:Director of Academic Advising Services

Rationale:As an integral part of the Academic Advising Services team, this full-time position will allow Carroll University to serve students and continue to increase advising program development as needed. This individual would support current programming and activities as well as assist in the overall growth and development of student advising programs offered through Academic Advising Services.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Advise exploring, major-changing and pre-nursing students.
  • Serve as secondary advisor to all international and exchange students.
  • Provide regular advising drop-in' hours throughout the academic year.
  • Counsel current students and parents about the advising process.
  • Support student advising-related program growth and development through:
    oRestructuring of Academic Advising Services and the campus-wide advising model.
    oFacilitation of student programming including the programs Exploring Program and other specific groups of students.
    oAdministration and co-facilitation of program-specific group advising provided by Academic Advising Services in conjunction with faculty.
    oAssist with maintaining accurate advising supplemental materials for programs throughout the University.
    oAssist in the administration and facilitation of first-year student Advising & Registration.
  • Collaborate with the Office of International Education, the Office of General Education, Career Services, Learning Commons, Office of Student Success, Residence Life, Spiritual Life and Admissions professionals through programming and referrals.
  • Maintain accurate advising records of student appointments and interactions.
  • Serve as Academic Advising Services representative to advise prospective and incoming student at programming events such as Campus Days, Preview Day, and the Student Involvement Fair.
  • Participate in a flexible schedule over the course of the academic year, at times including evenings and weekend programming efforts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:
    Education, Experience & Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's Degree preferred.
  • 1-2 years of academic advising or comparable experience.

    Technology Skills:
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to use University software to create and maintain student advising record.
  • Experience with student information systems preferred.

    Human Relations Skills:
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to excellence and accountability in student academic advising.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with leadership, management, students, parents, faculty and staff through a consultative, collaborative and active-problem solving approach.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of students, parents and colleagues.
  • Ability to effectively and professionally communicate with students and their families when appropriate.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, organize work and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, time sensitive environment.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Excellent professional judgement.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
