The position requires a high level of professionalism, senior leader interactions, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and tact & meeting facilitation. Jobs in this career family provide direct professional support for the teaching and/or educational service mission of the university. Functions include academic advising/counseling, student personnel administration, recruitment and admissions, registration, financial aid, faculty affairs, library services, curriculum administration, and others involving direct support of the educational mission of an academic unit.

Career Consultant (OPEN RANK)
What you will do (At Each Level)

Entry Level:
  • Meets with undergraduate Business School students to advise on Resumes, LinkedIn Profiles, Networking, Interviewing, and other pertinent career and professional development topics.
  • Serves as a liaison between students, the university, university services (CU Denver Career Center, Experiential Learning Center, etc.), and Business School Departments (RMI, Jake Jabs Center for Entrepreneurship, J.P. Morgan Center for Commodities, CITI, etc.).
  • Interact with faculty, school clubs, associations, strategic employer partners, and other clients of the Business School to promote connections in the Business School.
  • Participate in student and alumni outreach events, which include workshops, career fairs, and job events, information sessions, and other Business School club events.

Intermediate Level:
  • Meets with undergraduate and graduate Business School students and alumni to advise on Resumes, LinkedIn Profiles, Job and Industry Targeting, Networking, Interviewing, and other pertinent career and professional development topics.
  • Ensures students are aware of career opportunities, and employers are receiving quality candidates.
  • Serves as a liaison between students, the university, university services (CU Denver Career Center, Experiential Learning Center, etc.), and Business School Departments (RMI, Jake Jabs Center for Entrepreneurship, J.P. Morgan Center for Commodities, CITI, etc.).
  • Interact with faculty, school clubs, associations, strategic employer partners, and other clients of the Business School to promote connections in the Business School. Through networking and relationship building, strives to connect students and employers for mutually beneficial relationships.

Please note, this is not an exhaustive list of responsibilities and roles. Responsibilities will increase in scale based on the professional level (Entry, Intermediate, Senior, or Principal Professional) determined at the time of hire, based on incumbent qualifications.

Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)
Applicants must posses minimum qualifications at time of hire.

Entry Level
  • A bachelor's degree in education, psychology, business, public administration, health care, educational technology, social science, liberal arts, communications, accounting, finance, library science, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.

Intermediate Level
  • A bachelor's degree in education, psychology, business, public administration, health care, educational technology, social science, liberal arts, communications, accounting, finance, library science, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • One (1) year in education, psychology, business, public administration, health care, educational technology, social science, liberal arts, communications, accounting, finance, library science, or a directly related field.

Senior Level
  • A bachelor's degree in education, psychology, business, public administration, health care, educational technology, social science, liberal arts, communications, accounting, finance, library science, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • Two (2) years in education, psychology, business, public administration, health care, educational technology, social science, liberal arts, communications, accounting, finance, library science, or a directly related field.

Principal Level
  • A bachelor's degree in education, psychology, business, public administration, health care, educational technology, social science, liberal arts, communications, accounting, finance, library science, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • Three (3) years in education, psychology, business, public administration, health care, educational technology, social science, liberal arts, communications, accounting, finance, library science, or a directly related field.

Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualification to possess AT ALL LEVELS (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Master's or Terminal Degree in Counseling, Business, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • Experience with Corporate, third-party, or international recruiting and hiring.
  • Experience with business roles, hiring processes, and candidate evaluation processes that allow practical guidance to students and alumni on resumes, LinkedIn profiles, interviewing job and industry targeting strategies, and networking.
  • Experience working with various Applicant Tracking System(s) and Job Board sites.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of and contacts within the business and government community and skill utilizing and Colorado based businesses and professional organizations for networking pipelines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain external relationships with businesses and other employers and with graduates of the Business School.

  • Excellent MS Office skills (Outlook TM, Word TM, Excel, PowerPoint TMM), with knowledge of Linked In and other social networking applications.



    Ability to work independently with excellent follow-up and self-starter skills.

    Well-organized and self-confident, with excellent professional presentation skills.

    Strong attention to detail in all work products.

Conditions of Employment
  • Occasional work during the evening and/or weekends may be required.
  • This position follows a hybrid work structure where employees can work remotely or from the office, as needed, based on demands of specific tasks or personal work preferences. Working from the office is encouraged when working on tasks that require a high degree of collaboration.
  • This position is fully remote, and the candidate can work anywhere in the United States, although we would welcome an in-office presence.
  • This position requires an onsite presence on campus 5 days a week.

Mental, Physical, and/or Environmental Requirements
  • This position may be performed in a hybrid or remote environment, requiring the ability to work effectively in a remote setting. This includes maintaining a dedicated workspace free of excessive noise or distractions, reliable internet connectivity, and the ability to participate in virtual meetings for extended periods. Employees must be able to independently manage time, remain stationary for prolonged computer-based work, and transport necessary equipment (such as a laptop and peripherals) between their remote work location and the office as needed.

Compensation and Benefits
The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at the following levels:

Entry Level:
  • $51,483 - $56,903

Intermediate Level:
  • $53,922 - $59,598

Senior Level:
  • $63,295 - $69,958

Principal Level:
  • $73,363 - $81,085

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training. The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.Your total compensation goes beyond the number on your paycheck. The University of Colorado Denver provides generous leave, health plans and retirement contributions that add to your bottom line.
