College/Department Information

The Division of Institutional Effectiveness (IE) provides support and leadership through planning, assessment, data analysis and reporting, performance monitoring and improvement, and project management. The practical and collaborative services drive overall organizational improvements in quality, responsiveness, and efficiency for internal and external stakeholders.

Job Summary

The Institutional Data Analyst serves as a vital partner in delivering institutional data analysis to support data-informed decision-making, planning, and organizational effectiveness. Reporting directly to the Director of Institutional Analytics, this role acts as a key cross-functional liaison between Institutional Effectiveness (IE), Information Technology (ITS), and the areas that govern the institution's core data domains: Academic Affairs and Colleges, Enrollment and Student Affairs, Finance and Administration, Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement, and Research Administration.

In this role, the analyst is responsible for collecting and analyzing internal and external data to identify trends and key insights aligned with strategic goals. They develop, maintain, and improve critical dashboards and reports tailored for senior leadership. Beyond technical execution, a core responsibility involves promoting data literacy across the institution by training stakeholders and presenting actionable insights and recommendations at key leadership meetings. Additionally, the analyst collaborates closely with ITS and individual units to ensure rigorous data accuracy, compliance with governance standards, and overall process efficiency.

Responsibilities

The duties include, but are not limited to:

DATA COLLECTION AND MANAGEMENT: Gather and support the governance of data from various internal sources, such as campaign, workforce, research administration, facilities, finance, course and learning management, and student information systems, to analyze and track strategic and organizational performance metrics. Collaborate with Data Trustee and Stewards to ensure analytics tools are compliant with institutional data governance regarding user access within business intelligence environments. Partner with Data Governance Coordinator in IE to validate and document data deliverables (e.g., dashboards) within Data Cookbook, ensuring data accuracy and compliance with AU's data governance framework. Ensure that analytics tools follow institutional data design standards and are included and up-to-date on AU's Analytics Roadmap. Collaborate with IT to improve data integrity and availability within business intelligence solutions sourced from data warehousing.

DATA ANALYSIS: Apply statistical and analytical techniques to identify trends, patterns, and key factors related to the strategic and organizational goals of the institution. Analyze data against research questions/hypotheses and use critical-thinking skills to develop the most appropriate methodologies and solutions. Conduct exploratory analyses on data to find actionable insights using appropriate methodologies.

REPORTING AND VISUALIZATION: Create reports, dashboards, and visualizations to present data findings in a clear and concise manner, enabling stakeholders to make data-driven decisions. Develop dashboards, queries, and data analyses for the institution to improve strategic and organizational performance. Analyze institutional and external data to develop deliverables for senior leadership, allowing them to track strategic and organizational performance. Updates data deliverables on a regular schedule. Responds to assigned ad-hoc requests via the Institutional Data Request process.

DATA INTERPRETATION AND ACTIONABLE INSIGHTS: Translate data into actionable insights that inform institutional committees, task forces, and policies. Analyze, interpret, and summarize data that deliver actionable insights and empower decision-makers to achieve goals outlined in the institution's strategic plan.

COLLABORATION AND COMMUNICATION: Work with faculty, staff, and administrators to understand their data needs and communicate findings effectively. Promote data literacy by training units across the institution and their immediate stakeholders, such as Department Chairs, to interpret data deliverables and provide guidance on new and updated dashboards, analyses, and queries to ensure they can effectively use the information. Promote data literacy by communicating actionable recommendations and key insights from senior leadership data deliverables at cyclical leadership meetings such as President's Cabinet, Provost's Cabinet, and the Deans Council. Communicate data availability and updates from respective units to AU Data Community to promote awareness and support institutional goals. Summarize and communicate results effectively in a variety of formats including executive summaries, reports, dashboards, and data visualizations.

PROCESS IMPROVEMENT: Identify areas for improvement in data collection, analysis, and reporting processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy. Collaborate with the respective unit's SIS Functional Analyst to promote data accuracy, user access, and coordinate data collection needed for data deliverables (e.g., dashboards, analyses, reports, slide decks). The Institutional Data Analyst is not expected to work directly in the data system (e.g., Banner, Slate, PeopleSoft) as the SIS Functional Analyst.

MAINTAIN AWARENESS OF DATA PRACTICES AND TRENDS: Stay informed of emerging technologies, methodologies, and best practices in higher education analytics, ensuring Augusta University remains at the forefront of data-driven strategies.

OTHER DUTIES: Perform other related duties/tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field with at least three years of professional experience in analysis, business intelligence, institutional research, or a related analytics field OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field with five years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a higher education setting, Advanced analytics experience using predictive modeling and sentiment analysis, Experience in working with statistical and survey software, and Project management experience.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

KNOWLEDGE

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data analytics tools such as SQL, R, Python, Power BI, and Tableau.

Knowledge of research design, statistical methods, and data modeling.

Familiarity with business intelligence practices and trends in higher education.

SKILLS

Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills, including a strong aptitude for "communicating up" to keep supervisors updated on progress and potential roadblocks.

Skilled in multitasking across various projects and initiatives, with a capability for project management and maintaining momentum toward completion.

Skilled in conducting online research and synthesizing findings.

Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.

Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to interpret complex data sets.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days; Monday- Friday (work outside of regular business hours may be required)

Pay Band: B13

Salary: $68,500.00/annually

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
