Job Summary:

The CU College of Nursing is seeking a full-time (1.0 FTE) faculty member with expertise in acute and primary care across the lifespan and/or teaching undergraduate nursing courses. The work location for this faculty position is in Durango, Colorado on the Fort Lewis College Campus.

The ideal candidate will have teaching and scholarship experience with the ability to teach across programs. This individual will also hold a faculty appointment within the IRC: Clinical Series, Clinical Teaching Track. Faculty rank will depend on the candidate's qualifications and experience. The successful candidate must be able to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, and community members from varied ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Successful candidates will have recent experience in the area of focus listed above and a track record of excellence in academic teaching. Responsibilities may include participation in the teaching, practice, and service mission of the College of Nursing and the University of Colorado Anschutz. Demonstration of academic leadership such as curricular/program development is preferred. For APRN candidates, a portion of the position may be devoted to clinical practice depending on the candidate's experience and expertise. While the primary focus for these positions resides in the teaching mission of the College, service and scholarship to the University and the College are an expectation of all faculty members. A successful candidate will help foster a community of belonging and will utilize a justice lens to effectively engage with all members of the CU Anschutz College of Nursing community, specifically faculty, staff, students, and community partners with varied identities.

This position may involve didactic and clinical teaching responsibilities. Didactic courses are taught in the classroom, or in blended formats. Supervision of clinical courses includes simulation, clinical conferences, site visits, and close communication with clinical preceptors. It is the expectation that faculty will be on the Fort Lewis Campus or at clinical sites a minimum of three days per week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate learning by engaging students in high-level learning activities related to application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation of course content.

  • Remain current with best practices in teaching pedagogy and cognitive learning theories.

  • Develop expertise in simulation pedagogy.

  • Maintain clinical relevancy regarding guidelines and interventions pertinent to patient care. Serve as a role model to teach students how to interact, assess, and make sound clinical decisions.

  • Contribute to a psychologically safe learning environment, foster the free exchange of constructive feedback, encourage collaborative teamwork, clearly outline expectations, and cultivate a positive learning environment.

  • Collaborate with teaching team(s) to foster continued quality improvement and shared decision-making regarding course content and assignments, clinical experiences, and/or evaluation methods.

  • Provide a climate of mutual respect, open communication, and collaboration. Act as a role model for patient-centered care.

  • Evaluate student application of knowledge.

  • Participate in professional development activities that address desired learning outcomes and align with an individual's role and the priorities of the institution.

  • Use educational technology, task training devices, and computer-assisted instructional tools in the skills laboratory and classroom settings for teaching, learning, practice, and assessment of clinical competencies.

  • Promote accountability among students by implementing clear guidelines and expectations for preparation, engagement, and self-directed study/practice.

  • Faculty are encouraged to contribute to the body of knowledge in nursing (e.g., publications, editorials, empirical research, blogs, social media, and presentations).

  • Participate in professional service to the CU Anschutz College Nursing community.

  • Instruct and facilitate meaningful learning of the course outcomes in the curriculum and proactively support all facets of the learning environment.

  • Provide education through learner-centered instruction that will enable graduates to fulfill patients' evolving needs and meet the marketplace's workforce demands.

  • Encourage a culture of learning that values mutual responsibility and respect, life-long learning, and ethics as well as personal and professional development.

  • Participate in activities that promote the stature of the academic programs and the College of Nursing as well as abide by the mandates set by CU Anschutz, and the College of Nursing.

  • Participate in course, curricular and program revisions/development as assigned.

  • Introduce students to skills needed to succeed in a progressive teaching and learning environment that incorporates ongoing innovative strategies for competency development.

  • Serve on divisional, college, and university committees;

  • Demonstrate a commitment to collaborative inter-professional teaching and scholarship.


    Work Location:

    Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule based on assigned teaching responsibilities.

    o Minimum qualifications for appointment at the rank of Professor include recognition as a master teacher, sustained leadership in teaching, expertise in curriculum development and teaching innovations, and a sustained commitment to peer reviewed scholarly work

  • Eligible to obtain an unencumbered nursing license in Colorado.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in acute and primary care across the lifespan and/or teaching undergraduate nursing courses.

  • Experience mentoring undergraduate nursing students.

    Anticipated Pay Range:

    The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

  • Instructor of Clinical Teaching: $90,000 to $95,000 annually at 1.0 FTE

  • Sr. Instructor of Clinical Teaching: $95,000 to $100,000 annually at 1.0 FTE

  • Assistant Professor of Clinical Teaching: $100,000 to $115,000 annually at 1.0 FTE

  • Associate Professor of Clinical Teaching: $115,000 to $130,000 annually at 1.0 FTE

  • Professor of Clinical Teaching: $130,000 to $150,000 annually at 1.0 FTE

    The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
