POSITION SUMMARY:

Respond to the academic needs of students in the Talent Development Program through academic advising and academic coaching. Guide students in making informed decisions regarding educational goals, help them develop effective learning strategies and motivate them to identify and overcome obstacles that may be impeding academic success. Insure that students' progress toward graduation in a timely, systematic and successful way.



Duties and Responsibilities:
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Meet with students bi-weekly to create an academic plan, monitor their progress and develop intervention strategies for success.

Record data on student interactions using appropriate technology, such as the University's Starfish system.

Provide timely and accurate information, and interpret academic requirements and university policies and procedures to assigned advisees and the university community.

Collaborate with others, such as University College for Academic Success (UCAS), professional advisors and faculty/staff.

Participate in university student development and retention programs.

Develop and disseminate advising materials and presentations to support individual and group meetings.

Hold bi-weekly individual and group meetings with Talent Development students. Oversee/evaluate each semester individual student progress toward successful academic completion.

Hold mid-semester evaluations with Talent Development students.

Represent Talent Development on campus wide committees.

Work with students one-on-one to help them develop effective learning strategies and to become self-regulated learners, and monitor their progress.

Motivate students to identify and overcome obstacles that may be impeding academic success.

Work with students to develop strong time-management and organizational skills, focus on individual goals and identify steps in successfully reaching those goals.

Encourage students to utilize their strengths and available educational resources to encourage greater levels of personal responsibility for their learning.

Refer students to other resources on campus such as UCAS, Counseling Center, Center for Career and Experiential Education, Academic Enhancement Center, Student Life, etc.

Encourage students' participation as it relates to opportunities within the university for academic, professional and leadership development.

Encourage students' participation in study abroad, internships and national student exchange.

Encourage students through life events, obstacles and challenges through moral support.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintain accurate, organized and detailed student records.

Produce monthly reports to make sure that the program objectives are met.

Work evenings and weekends as required.

Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

LICENSES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:

Use of personal computers, printers and word processing, database management and spreadsheet software.
