The User Technology Services Specialist will support the work of the Ask Us Desk and Innovation Garage, two of the Auraria Library's dynamic service points. This includes staffing the Ask Us Desk, Innovation Garage, maintaining the Ask Us technology collection, and serving as the knowledge expert for the accessible workstations. The User Technology Specialist will support members of the Access and User Services Department in effective and efficient maintenance of their respective collections and responsibilities. The position will also identify opportunities for growth and development to benefit the library and the individuals in the unit and offers feedback and suggests upgraded services to the Ask Us Desk and Innovation Garage.

As one of the primary service providers for the Ask Us Desk and the Innovation Garage, the User Technology Specialist oversees daily operations, ensuring the consistent application of policies and procedures, supporting the work of Access and User Services colleagues, staff, and student employees, and providing creative and assistive technology, circulation, research, and wayfinding services to users.

User Technology Services Specialist
What you will do:

Customer Experience Spaces:
  • Acts as person in charge and knowledge expert for the Ask Us Desk; overseeing circulation, reference, and wayfinding, and general operations of the desk.
  • Acts as person in charge for the Innovation Garage; overseeing 3D printing, large format printer, sewing and serger machine usage, vinyl cutter, Cricut usage and other technologies as needed.
  • Meet user needs by answering directional questions about the library and campus, technology troubleshooting, handling circulation transactions, checking book drops, and providing first-tier reference, while providing a high level of customer service.
  • Collect and help assess data to identify opportunities to introduce new resources and technology for both the Ask Us Desk and Innovation Garage.
  • Assist in the management of resources, including computer maintenance, printing supplies, filament spools, and other Innovation Garage materials.

Accessible Software Specialist
  • Be the knowledge expert for accessible software and resources in the library, including; the Accessibility Work Room, five accessibility workstations around the library, and the accessibility station in the Research Consultation Room.
  • Create and maintain asynchronous trainings for library and department use.
  • Remain current on technology and trends around accessibility.

Technology Collection Support
  • Maintains the Ask Us Desk technology collection, which includes computer chargers, wired and wireless phone and device chargers, webcams, headphones, various adapters and dongles.
  • Provides appropriate record keeping, uses Library Services Platform circulation software to process materials, and conducts annual inventory of collection and report findings to Access Services Manager.
  • Tests and troubleshoots all technology to ensure items are clean and function properly.

  • Suggest replacement items, new items for the collection, and overall guidance for the Ask Us Desk Technology collection, including media kits.


  • Catalog items in the Ask Us Desk technology collection.

Additional duties
  • Member of Library committees and task forces as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
  • Bachelor's degree in library science, social sciences, fine art, communication arts, design, or related fields.
  • One (1) year of professional level experience in creative technology, digital media, or a related field.

Substitutions: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Two (2) years of creative technology, digital media, or related field experience.
  • Experience with circulation module functions of an integrated library system (ILS).
  • Experience in a library environment in a variety of access and public services including:
    • circulation, document delivery, and/or reference.
  • Experience in creative technology services work.
  • Experience providing support for accessible technology services.
  • Bilingual in Spanish, Chinese, or other language preferred.
  • Experience serving customers with disabilities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to develop, interpret and evaluate data, evaluate policies and exercise good judgment in the application, interpretation, and communication of policies procedures, rules, and guidelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and complete complex projects with multiple deadlines and schedules.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.

Conditions of Employment
  • Occasional work during the evening and/or weekends may be required.
  • This position follows a hybrid work structure where employees can work remotely or from the office, as needed, based on needs of the library.
  • The typical hours for this position will be 10:00 am- 6:30 pm.

Mental, Physical, and/or Environmental Requirements
  • While on site, tthe ability to sit for extended periods, stand and walk occasionally, reach with hands and arms, use hands to manipulate a keyboard and mouse, and have good near vision for computer work; often requiring minimal lifting, but may involve bending or reaching to retrieve items from shelves or drawers.
  • This position may be performed in a hybrid or remote environment, requiring the ability to work effectively in a remote setting. This includes maintaining a dedicated workspace free of excessive noise or distractions, reliable internet connectivity, and the ability to participate in virtual meetings for extended periods. Employees must be able to independently manage time, remain stationary for prolonged computer-based work, and transport necessary equipment (such as a laptop and peripherals) between their remote work location and the office as needed.

Compensation and Benefits
The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $58,031 - $64,140.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
