Job Summary

The Office of Victim Assistance (OVA) is searching for a Post-Masters Advocate Counselor Fellow. OVA provides trauma-informed victim advocacy and short-term counseling to university students, staff and faculty who are impacted by disruptive and disturbing life events, typically crime and policy violation related. This includes experiences of sexual assault, intimate partner abuse, harassment, stalking, disasters, mass violence, hazing, physical assault, discrimination, bias, and other types of experiences. This Fellow role works with members of the OVA team to provide free and confidential short-term counseling, advocacy, support and information to university community members impacted by disruptive or disturbing events. This position may carry an on-call cell phone for emergency response during business hours during each part of the week.This Fellowship is for candidates who have completed a master's degree in counseling or social work, have acquired the LPCC or LSW license, and need supervised clinical experience to obtain full licensure. Training for fellows includes regular seminars on specific mental health topics, weekly case consultation and weekly supervision with a licensed clinician. Fellows attend OVA staff meetings and trainings. The ideal candidate desires to acquire specific experience in trauma-focused counseling and advocacy.

OVA is in the division of Employee Health & Well-Being (EHWB). OVA serves all CU students, staff and faculty, and partners with every Health and Well-Being office to offer services to all CU affiliates.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Advocacy and Counseling
  • Provide confidential entry-point and follow-up services including: short-term counseling, crisis intervention, intakes, advocacy, referrals, in-person accompaniment, information on system-wide operations (criminal, administrative, medical, academic and civil options), victim outreach, on- and off-campus service coordination, finding solutions, and support to students, staff, and faculty impacted by disruptive, disturbing, or traumatic events.
Administrative and Training
  • Participate in weekly case consultation, staff meetings and supervision with members of the OVA team. Participate in training program as assigned.
  • Record client interventions and statistics by completing case notes, release of information forms, and other documentation.
Collaboration, Outreach, and Education
  • Collaborate with other members of the OVA team on projects, such as delivery of trainings, and educational materials.


What You Should Know

  • This position operates with mostly in-person/in-office work, with occasional evening/weekend work. A few days a month can be remote. At times there may be more remote days related to fall, winter, spring, and summer breaks based on the academic calendar.
  • This is a limited term position, expected to last for 2 years. The position is expected to begin in early August 2026.


What We Can Offer

The starting salary for this position is $53,000, with an increase to $59,000 in the second year of the fellowship.

What We Require

  • Master's degree in social work, counseling, or related field by hire date.
  • Licensure as an LSW or LPCC in the state of Colorado by the hire date.
  • Clinical experience providing direct client services including counseling, advocacy, and/or crisis intervention.
  • Experience with a trauma-informed approach to clinical and advocacy services, including working with issues related to gender violence, such as sexual assault, partner abuse, stalking, experiences of bias, and discrimination, through internship/externship and/or specific coursework.
  • Experience and interest in working with people from multicultural backgrounds and marginalized populations.

  • Good communication and social skills to build and maintain effective working relationships with staff and a diverse range of constituents.
  • Knowledge of victims' rights and/or Title IX and Title VII.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and proven dedication to social justice and creating a welcoming environment.
  • Organized and detail oriented.
