Job Summary

The College of Communication, Media, Design and Information at CU Boulder welcomes applications for the Learning Spaces and AV Coordinator position! This role provides direct technical support, consulting, and project management for college learning spaces and audiovisual needs, and works closely with the Director of Technology Experience to develop and deliver college-wide support services for CMDI classrooms and associated learning spaces. This position coordinates and builds highly functional relationships with the Office of Information Technology (OIT) learning spaces group and other related campus units to support departmental and college teaching and learning goals; participating in college space planning and operational activities as needed to ensure that learning spaces, labs, and media production spaces and activities therein align with department and college-level teaching, learning and administrative technology goals.The Learning Spaces and AV Coordinator position spans many areas of instructional and non-instructional technology support and requires a high degree of knowledge in the areas of telecommunications, audio and video equipment, and personal computer hardware and software. The person in this position must demonstrate a high level of customer service in working with and providing technical and event support for faculty, staff, students, vendors, and the public. This includes case managing audio-visual needs for college-wide events, managing audio-visual equipment for events, coordinating audio-visual resources with our internal events team and clients, developing AV schematics for high-impact events, serving as the on-site AV technician for college-wide events and meetings, troubleshooting and maintaining instructional and event technology, hardware, software, systems, and peripherals.This position is a member of the CMCI Technology Experience Team. The Team provides a unique blend of essential technology support, space and production management, and innovative design and practice to the teaching, learning, and research community at the College of Communication, Media, Design, and Information (CMDI), the University of Colorado Boulder.The Technology Experience Team is closely aligned with the CMDI One College Vision and delivers solution-focused customer service with our work grounded in principles of access, equity, and innovation.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Learning Space Projects
  • Oversee the technology maintenance, repair, upgrades and renovations of all CMDI learning spaces, design studios, and other audio-visual elements and installations in multiple locations throughout the college, including the Walnut Street Design Studio, Creative Labs Center and other CMDI digital media facilities across the Boulder campus.
  • Provide technical support to faculty and staff related to instructional technology and audio-visual equipment; assist faculty with classroom hardware and software problems as necessary.
  • Build partnerships and projects with OIT to make updates and changes to the different components of the CMDI learning spaces and labs including kickstarting classroom upgrade projects to replace aging technology and oversee standard AV installation and maintenance.
  • Oversee and coordinate project assets, scheduling, and personnel from learning spaces projects in conjunction with OIT and Facilities Management and other stakeholders.
  • Investigate upgrades and repairs needed for aging or unmaintained learning spaces and coordinate with OIT units to kickstart renovations or negotiate contracts for acquiring routine maintenance.
  • Research and recommend new or emerging technologies for college use in learning spaces, labs, student and administrative spaces.
  • Provide consulting and project management to the planning and equipping of new or repurposed CMDI learning spaces.
  • Provide training, consulting and guidance to CMDI faculty and staff on use of college learning spaces.
  • Coordinate and consult with college leadership and staff on mission-critical college space needs, specifically designing and provisioning new or repurposed learning and administrative spaces.
Event and Administrative AV Support
  • Manage and provide AV support for visiting artist talks, guest lectures, conferences, symposia, student outreach events, capstones, public-facing events and more.
  • Design AV schematics for high-impact events and create accessible AV documentation for continual reference.
  • Serve as the on-site support technician for all events requesting AV support and work closely with clients on desired outcomes for the event.
  • Operate sound, microphones, visual presentations, projectors, and additional AV elements for events.
  • Coordinate and conduct close communications with event staff and guest speaker on AV needs, expectations, and requests.
  • Provide hands-on support for AV designs, installations and set up and strike for faculty and student showcases and events.
  • Provide hands-on support for college leadership meetings and private-internal meetings, ensuring audio-visual elements online and in-person operate seamlessly.
  • Serve as liaison between CMDI clients and special AV units across campus, such as OIT and UMC-AV staff, to support a wide-array of event needs like Zoom licenses and additional AV technician support.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and serve as case manager for all AV for events, as requested, and communicate with clients promptly throughout the process of an event from initial inquiry to post-event follow-up.
  • Provide occasional support for media capture in coordination with CMDI Communication and Engagement staff for departmental events.
Administrative Space Support
  • Provide consulting, troubleshooting, and occasional direct support for CMDI and departmental conference rooms and meeting spaces.
Student Supervision
  • Supervise Learning Spaces and AV student staff and other CMDI Technology Experience student staff as assigned.
Other Duties as Assigned

Onsite position.8 - 5 pm, M-F with occasional evening and weekends.

What We Can Offer

The salary range for this position is $58,200 - $65,000 annually. Relocation stipend may be offered based on departmental guidelines.

What We Require

  • Bachelor's degree in Multimedia Technology, Instructional Design, or related field.
  • One year of professional experience in the operation and maintenance of audiovisual and/or multimedia equipment.
    • Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.


What You Will Need

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Attention to detail, and ability to work under pressure in a complex, changing environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of industry standards for AV and classroom technology, videoconferencing, and web streaming services.
  • Demonstrated experience in training faculty or professional clients in the use of AV and classroom equipment.
  • Expertise with Windows operating systems, Mobile Operating Systems, Android, and IOS.
  • A demonstrated understanding of teaching pedagogy and the importance of technology in the modern classroom.
  • Familiarity with Mac operating systems and applications; web page authoring/editing software; database software, spreadsheet software; word processing; presentation software and electronic information resources in an academic setting.
  • Ability to learn new hardware systems and software applications.
