Compliance Safety Specialist
Job Summary
Implement health and safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and organization policies. Responsible for emergency response planning, fire prevention, hazardous waste management, resource conservation, regulatory compliance, development, and updates of EHS policies and plans as required for different countries and locations. Perform safety audits and inspections to find potential hazards and take corrective actions where issues arise. Source, develop, and deliver necessary EHS training sessions, maintain and update training records and certificates. Investigate accidents and incidents to determine what caused them and take steps to prevent them in the future. Prepare detailed reports and follow up on recommended corrective actions associated with completed compliance & oversight reports, incident reports, observations, and root-causes. Moderate skill set and proficiency in discipline required. Conduct work assignments of increasing complexity, under moderate supervision with some latitude for independent judgment.

Responsibilities
- Reviews safety related documentation and data within established systems to ensure compliance with applicable health and safety regulations. Reviews documentation internal and external to the department.
- Performs data entry into established database(s) in support of EHS operations
- Conducts processes related to internal department document control including but not limited to change tracking and management, revision management, website content verification, etc.
- Analyzes and mitigates complex, non-routine regulatory issues and workflow problems. Acts as a liaison between University parties (PIs, regulatory team, inspection team, etc.) on issues pertaining to the department's compliance procedures.
- Triages questions and provides virtual or in person system guidance when necessary
- Assists in the development of standard operating procedures and process improvements for departmental implementation and guidance for external associates.
- May assist with development of training/educational content related to the departmental compliance process.
- May assist with administrative tracking and reporting for department related sponsored projects.
- 90% of work is computer-based work
Minimum Qualifications
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).
Environmental Health & Safety Specialist, I: Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience or a master's (or equivalency) degree.
