Job Summary
The Educational Developer supports high quality teaching and student learning by partnering with faculty, instructors and graduate teaching assistants to strengthen teaching practice through coaching, consultation and evidence informed professional learning. This role's primary service is instructional coaching through structured, goal-based engagements with faculty. The position designs and facilitates scalable development opportunities and contributes to institution-wide teaching and learning initiatives that advance student success, comprehensive teaching and accessible learning experiences.
Responsibilities
INSTRUCTIONAL COACHING AND CONSULTATION: Provide individual and small group instructional coaching through structured cycles that may include goal setting, observation or course walkthroughs, feedback conversations, action planning, and follow-up. Conduct confidential, developmental teaching consultations related to course design, teaching strategies, assessment alignment, and student engagement across modalities. Support instructors in interpreting evidence of teaching effectiveness, including student feedback, peer input, and course data, and then translating it into practical changes. Maintain a supportive, non-evaluative stance that builds trust and encourages reflective practice.
FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMING: Design, facilitate, and assess professional learning experiences including workshops, institutes, learning communities, and cohort-based series. Develop reusable resources such as guides, templates, examples, and toolkits that instructors can use to improve teaching and course design. Partner with academic units and campus stakeholders to identify needs and deliver tailored programming.
COURSE AND CURRICULUM SUPPORT: Support course design and redesign using outcome-aligned practices that connect learning outcomes, assessments, and learning activities. Consult on assessment design and academic integrity aligned with learning goals and appropriate workload for instructors and students. Promote student-centered approaches that reduce barriers and increase belonging.
ASSESSMENT AND CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT: Evaluate coaching and program outcomes using appropriate methods such as feedback tools, participation data, and qualitative evidence. Document reach, engagement, and impact for unit reporting and strategic planning. Use findings to improve services and resource development
COLLABORATION AND SERVICE: Collaborate with instructional design, learning technologies, libraries, accessibility services, and academic leadership to support institutional priorities in the instructional space. Contribute to committees, initiatives, and events related to teaching excellence and student success. Provide occasional support for special projects aligned with the mission of the Center for Instructional Innovation.

Required Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in education with three years of experience in instructional design, learning sciences, educational psychology, higher education, or a related field, OR Master's degree from an accredited college or university in any Augusta University taught discipline with three years of equivalent professional experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the responsibilities of the position.
Preferred Qualifications
Doctoral or terminal degree from an accredited college or university. Formal training in instructional coaching methods or teaching observations. Experience supporting graduate teaching assistants or early career instructors. Experience assessing program impact and using data to improve services. Record of contributions to teaching and learning scholarship, professional presentations or resource publication.

Experience teaching in higher education.
Experience designing and facilitating professional learning.
Experience providing instructional coaching, mentoring, or teaching consultations.

Project management skills.

Skilled in coaching conversations, including active listening, goal setting, feedback, and follow-through.

Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; M-F (Work outside of the standard business hours may be required)

Salary: $62,300/annually-$79,400/annually
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
