Job Description:

The Director of Resolutions serves as an integral member of the Office of Equity Compliance and Reporting (OECR) and contributes to the overall direction and priorities of the office. The Director serves as the hearing officer and/or the presiding officer in Title IX and sexual misconduct matters as well as the decision-maker in nondiscrimination and anti-harassment matters. They conduct and facilitate pre-hearings and hearings, synthesize large amounts of information and documents, prepare written reports, findings of fact, and conclusions of law based on the hearings and evidence presented, and maintain and adjudicate reports. They manage and facilitate hearings timely and efficiently, ensuring fairness and transparency throughout the process. The Director initiates, manages, and supervises all alternative processes of resolution through OECR and serves as liaison with other offices offering forms of conflict resolution outside of the disciplinary processes. Additionally and in conjunction with leadership, they train alternate hearing officers and decision makers and serve as an ongoing resource and consultant to these alternates. The Director maintains deep knowledge of the Nondiscrimination and Anti-Harassment Policy, the Title IX Policy, and the Sexual Misconduct Policy and related laws, policies and procedures.

Job Qualifications

  • Possession of a master's degree in a related field. JD strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in work related to Title IX, Title VII, and/or student conduct. Experience at a large, complex research institution is preferred.
  • Prior experience adjudicating grievances or other employee conflicts is preferred.
  • Prior experience investigating and/or adjudicating sexual misconduct matters is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to interpret federal and state equal opportunity and non-discrimination laws and regulations, including Title IX, Title VII, FERPA, VAWA, and other applicable laws and regulations is required.
  • Excellent writing, verbal communication, and analytical skills, with the ability to present findings clearly and effectively.
  • The ability to apply policy definitions in real time, particularly related to relevance.
  • The ability to maintain order and decorum in adversarial and/or high-stress settings.
  • An understanding of and ability to use trauma-informed practices in a hearing setting.
  • The ability to operate neutrally and without preference or bias.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, colleagues, and families.
  • Experience in managing crises effectively and collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet tight timelines within a task-based and project management framework.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to collaborate with peers and superiors to ensure work is completed.
  • Organized and capable of tracking, managing, and resolving issues on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Self-motivating, professional, flexible, comfortable with ambiguity in a diverse organizational environment.
  • Ability to utilize technology and institutional databases in the documentation of records and support of students.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent and mature judgment, maintain objectivity, and safeguard confidential and sensitive information.
