Director of Big Screens

Job Summary

The Director of Big Screens position is responsible for helping coordinate, direct and produce University of Utah game-day in-venue experience, select ESPN Digital Broadcasts for multiple NCAA sports, and assorted University events including concerts, speaking and entertainment ventures. We are looking for someone that will take a hands-on approach in collaborating directly with the events, marketing and creative staff at the University of Utah. This position will report to the Assistant AD of Broadcast Operations and will work within a team of 6 dedicated to becoming a top production department across all collegiate institutions.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure the preparation, operation and content loading of athletic video boards for events at both Rice Eccles Stadium and the Jon M Huntsman Center.
  • Serve as the main producer and/or director for major events, with the responsibility of coordinating, executing and leading a 10-15-person production crew.
  • Assist with the growth and development of an internship program that will provide University students the opportunity to learn live production and cover live events across multiple control room positions.
  • Will be included in the coordination of weekly office hours and learning opportunities to grow students' skills.
  • Coordinate with Marketing and JMI corporate partners to ensure execution of both in-game sponsorship and fan-engagement promotions.
  • Assist the Director of Broadcast Production with select ESPN+ productions when venue video boards are not in use, serving as a director for soccer, baseball and softball when able.
  • Work closely with the Broadcast Engineer to maintain the upkeep of cameras and associated peripherals.
  • Uphold department branding guideline & identity standards.
  • Maintain working knowledge of and adherence to all NCAA, Big-12, and institutional rules and regulations laid out by University Compliance.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, or related field
  • Five years demonstrated experience in power 4 conference collegiate or any assortment of professional sports teams with jumbotron productions, or equivalency; and a commitment to be an excellent collaborator and teammate.
  • Knowledge of football, basketball, volleyball is vital. Gymnastics, baseball and softball knowledge is highly preferred.
  • Should include experience in the following: production in journalistic or public affairs based programming; studio, remote and field work; experience as an editor, broadcast producer or director for linear or streaming platforms. Must be able to work under stressful situations and have an understanding of journalistic, ethical and editorial convention.





Preferences
  • Experience with helping run a student video program.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Suite and standard broadcast mediums.
  • Experience with Power 4 venue jumbotron productions protocols and procedures
  • Background working NCAA Championship Events.
  • Familiarity with Sony Cameras, Ross Acuity/Carbonite/Touchdrive switchers, and EVS replay systems.
  • Knowledge of Daktronics Show Control and Ross XPression highly desired
