The School of Education & Human Development at the University of Colorado Denver is seeking nominations and applications for the position of Clinical Assistant Professor in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education. The CLDE program provides undergraduate and graduate level courses to prepare professionals to work with multilingual learners in elementary and secondary schools. We have district partnerships and offer flexible course options for students. The CLDE program is designed for K-12 educators who are passionate about championing the strengths and assets of multilingual children. All course plans are offered online with synchronous and asynchronous courses.
The CLDE program has a strong commitment to the education of multilingual and multidialectal students that challenges racism and promotes equity. Program faculty emphasize sociocultural, sociolinguistic, and social justice approaches to the study of language and learning. We are committed-through courses, practicum experiences, and performance-based assessments-to asset-based approaches that engage teachers in applied learning focused on better understanding and working with multilingual learners. The overarching commitment and responsibility of the CLDE program is to provide teachers with critical knowledge, understandings, and skills to help multilingual learners thrive. Assistant Teaching Professor/Clinical Assistant Professor
What you will do:
The primary role will be to help meet the instructional and program demands for the CLDE program. This includes but is not limited to teaching undergraduate and/or graduate classes in CLDE, and engaging in course design and curriculum development. Service responsibilities include participation in CLDE team meetings and related CLDE program-specific activities, e.g., programmatic assessment, planning, enrollment, etc.
The courses in the CLDE program teach about:
  • Foundations of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education
  • Language development and bilingualism
  • History, law and politics around immigration and education of bilingual students
  • Language, culture, and identity in relation to teaching and learning
  • Effective literacy instruction and development for multilingual learners
  • Strength-based assessment of multilingual learners
  • Theories and methods in bilingual education
  • Advocacy and leadership for bilingual learners in K-12 schools


    Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)
    Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
  • A doctorate in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education, Bilingual Education or closely related field. ABD candidates will be considered but must complete all degree requirements for the doctorate by the date of the appointment.
  • An academic/professional background with an emphasis in CLDE/Bilingual Education
  • Demonstrated successful higher education teaching experience in undergraduate and graduate courses
  • K-12 teaching experience


    Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience in bilingual education settings
  • Proficiency in Spanish
  • Experience teaching CLDE endorsement courses at the district or university level


    Conditions of Employment
    This is a full-time (9-month) academic year clinical teaching position. An opportunity for summer teaching is available.

    Compensation and Benefits
    The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $80,000
    The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
    The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
    This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
