Job Summary:
We are currently seeking skilled and team-oriented applicants for the following position: Plumber/Pipefitter/Steamfitter Lead.
With buildings covering over 300 acres within the EWU campus this position is vital in providing community orientated, inclusive and well maintained buildings. The primary responsibility of this position is the day to day coordination and scheduling of the plumbing shop maintenance and installation projects.

- Assist in the preparation of estimates and pricing for materials and equipment required for daily work. Contact vendors when needed for cost and delivery schedules. Generate requests for materials and equipment needed to complete maintenance and renovation work.
- Coordinate needed assistance with other shops on service and renovation projects. Work with supervisor and other personnel to facilitate completion of projects.
- Perform journey level plumbing, pipe fitting and steamfitting installation and maintenance as directed.
- This position installs, maintains and repairs water mains, storm sewers, septic tanks, sewage mains and laterals, valves, drains, basins, tubs, faucets, lavatories, sinks, gates, hydrants, water coolers, and dishwashers and associated equipment.
- This position is also responsible for repairing fixtures, performing valve maintenance, cutting and threading pipe, testing back flow assemblies.
- In addition this position is responsible for maintaining water mains, fixtures, sewer lines, valves and septic tanks to determine need for maintenance, cleaning and/or repair.

The salary for this position is $76,808 (minimum) up to $88,800 top salary being offered. Where the hired candidate will begin within this range is dependent on education, experience, and skills.

Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- Possession of a valid drivers license is required
- Journey-level standing as a plumber or steamfitter as attested by:
- a) Completion of recognized apprenticeship in plumbing or steam fitting OR
- b) Full journey-level status in Plumbers and Pipefitters Union or equivalent experience and/or training.
- Knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials tools, and equipment of plumbing and/or steam fitting trades; kinds, uses, and qualities of fixtures; safety precautions. Operation and maintenance of steam power plant machinery; fluid and gas systems; boiler laws; safety precautions
- Ability to work from blueprints, plans, and sketches; estimate materials and time needed to complete jobs; use hand and power tools
- Obtain and keep current an Asbestos Workers Certification
- Keep current all certifications required for the position
- Demonstrated ability to apply a responsive and flexible approach that is supportive of the needs including universal access of our students, faculty, staff and the public.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Washington State Plumbing License
- Water distribution manager certificate of competency and/or Water Treatment Plant Operator Certificate of Competency issued by the Department of Health,
- Back flow assembly tester certification
- Extensive knowledge of water systems.
- Certified or experienced Cross-Connection Control Specialist and Water Distribution Manager.
Other Skills and Abilities:
- Understanding of safe work practices
- Proficient with drain cleaning equipment, jetter, hydro excavation, and Vactron equipment.
- Knowledge of and ability to perform and manage effectively in a customer service-based maintenance operation
- Strong communication and attendance record.
Job Duties:
- Distribution of work orders, shop mail, and work assignments for the Plumbing Shop personnel. Check to see that work orders and service orders are completed. Appropriately document the work that has been completed.
- The EWUs CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) work order system is the accountability tool used within Facilities and Planning. All staff will use our CMMS software as intended to track, request and manage shop operations and individual daily assigned work.
- Direct and schedule daily maintenance and renovation projects with supervision, appropriate shops and the campus community. Submit information as requested for these projects.
- Represent the shop, department and university in a professional manner during all interactions with the campus community (students, staff and other trades). Assist in resolution of shop related problems and issues.
- Assist in the monitoring the adherence to university policy by others in the shop and department. Gather necessary information given by staff to present to supervision for discussion. Coordinate safety training within the shop.
- Submit information on required or elective training for consideration. Keep supervision informed on safety issues and potential maintenance issues that are cost impacts on the university. Assist supervision with information for shop employee performance evaluations and other conduct and behavior issues.
- Perform journey level plumbing, pipefitting, steamfitting and maintenance as directed. Make efforts to schedule necessary preventative maintenance on critical equipment or systems.
- Assist in the preparation of estimates and pricing for materials and equipment required for daily work. Contact vendors when needed for cost and delivery schedules. Generate requests for materials and equipment needed to complete maintenance and renovation work.
- Troubleshoot steam stations, steam traps, and motive pumps to ensure steam remains in the system.
- Perform planned maintenance on specialty systems, including: Water softeners, Pot feeder socks, Water coolers, and bottle fillers
- Monitor and adjust chlorine levels and maintain chlorine injection or treatment systems.
- Perform fire hydrant maintenance, water valve cycling, and system flushing.
- Operate and maintain seasonal water features, including cleaning strainers, scuppers, and maintaining proper chlorine levels.
- Ensure building drains (sewer and storm) remain clear and operational.
- Coordinate needed assistance with other shops on service and renovation projects. Work with supervision and other personnel to facilitate completion of projects.
- Maintain approximately 3.5 miles of steam lines in tunnels, with drip legs every 100 feet on the 100 lb. steam lines and expansion joints.
- Collect WQMS-required samples monthly and annually; submit required reports to DHO and EPA. Conduct quarterly sewer sampling for DOE and provide flow reports to C&P.
- Repair fixtures, perform valve maintenance, cut and threading pipe, test back flow assemblies.
- Assist in organization and storage of materials, documentation, shop layout and other information.
- Pick up materials from vendors when appropriate.
- Present input on operational issues that may enhance the performance of the shop and department.
- Perform related duties as directed.
Conditions of Employment:
