Summary of Responsibilities


  • Engineer: Lead the design, development, and installation of physical layer infrastructure to meet business requirements in accordance with best practices. Conduct analysis of business problems and oversee the evaluation, development, and recommendation of specific infrastructure products to provide cost-effective solutions that meet business and technology requirements. Create a well-informed infrastructure strategy and manage the adoption/implementation process by overseeing the installation. Offer guidance in infrastructure movement techniques, etc. Direct research and the design of best-fit infrastructure architectures.
  • Installation/Troubleshooting/Management: Configures and maintains physical IT infrastructure spaces. Performs configuration and management tasks, including upgrades and maintenance fixes to IT facilities. Manages the installation, configuration, maintenance, connectivity, and troubleshooting of physical/environmental IT infrastructure. Enforces procedures and resolves technical issues to ensure all aspects of the physical IT infrastructure systems meet business demands. Implements security policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Team Lead: Lead the infrastructure in planning and designing new installs and changes to existing physical infrastructure. Coordinate with university personnel and contractors to provide the best experience and installation of infrastructure. Be a reference to team members as questions and concerns arise. Stay up to date on new and improved technologies to remain at the leading edge of physical infrastructure needs. Manages part-time/student schedules to allow enough work time to complete jobs. Approves time and trains them with knowledge and skills to complete jobs on time and up to our standards.
  • Governance: Maintains current knowledge on industry through acquiring information on new technologies and procedures by attending conferences, webinars, and current industry training. Conducts research on emerging technologies in support of physical IT infrastructure. Recommends technologies that will increase cost effectiveness and system flexibility. Consults with and provides technical advice to other departments. Contributes to strategic plans.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or technology-related field, plus 4 years of experience; OR any combination of education and experience totaling 8 years.

Preferred Certifications/Credentials:

  • BICSI Technician
  • RCDD

  • Knowledge of TIA low-voltage standards

  • Knowledge of analog phone installation and troubleshooting.
