Position Announcement

The Department of Information Systems and Technology (www.uvu.edu/ist) invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions in Information Systems to begin August 1, 2026.

The information systems faculty member develops and teaches undergraduate courses in programming, database design and SQL, web and application development, systems analysis and design, applied artificial intelligence, data analytics, computer and information security, and global and ethical issues in technology. The faculty member serves on the departmental Information Systems Curriculum Committee, participates in accreditation assessment, and engages in scholarly activities that contribute to the mission of the university, department, and profession. In addition, the faculty provides service to the department, college, and university. One position also supports the Kahlert Applied AI Institute through collaborative research, curriculum development, and initiatives that advance the integration of AI across the University.

The department will accept all qualified applications but is particularly interested in applicants with experience in applied artificial intelligence, machine learning (supervised, unsupervised, and deep learning), generative and agentic AI, and other closely related subjects.

The Information Systems and Technology Department offers ABET-accredited degrees in BS Information Systems and Information Technology. The department also offers degrees in Cybersecurity and Business Technologies and Education.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications


  • Graduation from an accredited institution with a doctorate in Information Systems, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or a closely related academic field.
  • Minimum of six months post-secondary teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated experience incorporating artificial intelligence concepts and applications into curriculum design and instruction, with the ability to contextualize AI within the information systems field and advance students' understanding of its relevance and impact.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least two years of related teaching, training, and/or industry experience.
  • Evidence of scholarly research.
Physical Requirements:
  • Frequent talking, hearing, sitting, walking, and standing.
  • Frequent use of fine-hand manipulation is associated with the use of a computer.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities


  • Deep understanding of applied artificial intelligence and machine learning principles, including data modeling, predictive analytics, and intelligent systems integration within enterprise information environments.
  • Knowledge gained through teaching experience or expertise in at least three of the following areas: applied artificial intelligence, machine learning/data analytics, information systems design and implementation, Internet of Things, and computer and information security.
  • Knowledge of subject matter and course content pertinent to Information Systems and Information Technology programs.
  • Knowledge of online teaching environments, such as Canvas or other course management systems
  • Interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Curriculum development skills.
  • Skills in maintaining professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
  • Proficient in executing scholarly activities and contributing to service endeavors, with a teaching focus that complements the Information Systems domain.
  • Ability to engage in activities that broadly support applied AI across the university, developing interdisciplinary programs, mentoring students, building industry partnerships, and participating in Institute governance.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, agency administrators, and community practitioners from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and initiative in solving problems.
  • Ability to work independently.

  • Ability to plan measurable objectives, prepare instructional materials, and follow in an approved curriculum.
  • Ability to assess student work and maintain and submit accurate and current plans, reports, and records involving student accountability, attendance, and performance.

  • Ability to assist academic advisors, the department chairperson, and/or the program coordinators, faculty, department staff, and industry partners in maintaining effective programs.
