Position Announcement

The School of Education at Utah Valley University invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Student Leadership and Success Studies Department focusing on first-year experience and transition studies, student success and retention, student development, leadership, and peer mentoring to begin August 2026. The successful candidate will join a dynamic department of faculty who are committed to a student-centered, engaged approach to teaching and learning. Successful applicants will be expected to obtain International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Certification within one year of hire if they are not already ISTE Certified, as part of our School of Education's commitment to innovation and excellence in digital teaching and learning.

Under the direction of the Dean and Department Chair, the successful candidate will teach a diverse student population using a variety of instructional modalities and acknowledged best practices in the discipline. The candidate will teach a variety of courses designed to promote academic and personal success and prepare students for leadership and peer mentoring experiences. They will also review, revise and develop curriculum, engage in scholarly activities, pursue professional development designed to improve teaching and scholarship, and participate in department, college and university service, including department leadership. The Department supports the University's mission to provide open-access opportunities for students from a wide variety of backgrounds and perspectives. Summary of Responsibilities


  • Develops and teaches courses in first-year experience and transition studies, student success and retention, student development, leadership, and peer mentoring using a variety of delivery modalities including face-to-face, hybrid, and online instruction.
  • Plans, prepares, teaches, regularly evaluates and revises an approved course of study with measurable student learning outcomes for each course taught.
  • Learns about and implements the use of emerging technologies to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Instructs and provides effective leadership and classroom management to individuals and groups in the classroom or online learning environment through lectures, discussions, conferences, demonstrations, meetings, individualized instruction and other appropriate teaching methods.
  • Maintains and submits accurate, current reports and records regarding accountability, attendance, performance, and follow-up, pursuant to institutional policies related to rights and responsibilities, as well as professional expectations and behaviors.
  • Consistently assesses student learning outcomes using the approved assessment instrument(s) and submits the data per department instructions.
  • Maintains a student-oriented, engaged learning approach to teaching and learning informed by assessment data and high impact practices.
  • Consistently pursues professional development aimed at improving teaching and scholarship and maintains current knowledge of research findings and trends in the discipline through peer-reviewed professional publications and participation in workshops, conferences, and seminars.
  • Develops and actively engages in scholarly projects and activities, which may include peer-reviewed publications and/or presentations in the discipline, and/or in the scholarship of teaching and learning.
  • Actively contributes to department, School of Education, and university through serving as a member of committees and/or in leadership roles and completing dependable work on assigned committees, by way of election or appointment.
  • Assists the department chair, faculty colleagues, department staff, and advisors in strategic planning and achieving departmental mission, objectives, and goals.
  • Mentors adjunct faculty teaching Student Leadership and Success Studies courses.
  • Mentors student peer mentors co-facilitating Student Leadership and Success Studies courses.
  • Prepares instructional materials including assessments, course outlines, and syllabi appropriate for the learning environment.
  • Establishes and maintains regular office hours to advise and mentor students.
  • Attends faculty and other meetings as assigned.


Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications


  • Graduation from an accredited institution with a doctoral degree in a field closely related to first-year experience and transition studies, student success and retention, student development, leadership, and peer mentoring.
  • Minimum of one-year teaching experience in a college or university. ABDs may apply; however, candidate must have an earned doctorate degree at time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least two years of college/university teaching experience
  • Earned relevant professional license or credentials
  • Evidence of scholarly pursuits and potential
  • International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Certification
  • K-12 and/or Higher Education Leadership experience
