Under the supervision of the Associate Dean, this instructor will teach assigned classroom and shop courses for the Diesel and Powertrain Servicing Technical Diploma program. Duties include development and teaching of all Diesel and Powertrain Servicing courses. Instructor should be able to explain theory, demonstrate proper servicing techniques facilitating student learning of the course objectives. Serves as a resource person to Diesel and Powertrain Servicing students and faculty, complies with and reinforce safety and service standards, and serves as a model of professionalism with which students may identify. In addition, this position also provides Diesel Department leadership in: Maintaining SAE (Society for Automotive Engineering), supporting student engagement, recruiting and other College initiatives that relate to this program.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities


  • Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities.
  • Manage the classroom/laboratory.
  • Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program evaluation.
  • Manage equipment, supplies and materials.
  • Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues.
  • Collaborate with advisory committee in program area.
  • Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
  • Promote the education/training program, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to market MATC.
  • Support student organizations and activities.
  • Develop relationships with business and industry.
  • Complete program evaluation and follow-up.
  • Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in field.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Educational Requirements:
  • Must have a Technical Diploma or Associate Degree in Diesel/Automotive Servicing or closely related field. Related fields include but are not limited to Heavy Equipment Repair or Agricultural Equipment Repair.
Occupational Experience:
  • Must have one of the following:
    • A minimum of seven years of work experience as a Diesel/Automotive Servicing Technician combined with a Technical Diploma OR
    • A minimum of five years of work experience as a Diesel/Automotive Servicing Technician combined with an Associate Degree
  • In addition, one of the following must be met:
    • At least one year of work experience must have occurred within the last five years OR
    • Two years of teaching Diesel/Automotive Servicing course work at the post-secondary level within the last five years
Industry or Vendor Certifications:
  • An instructor must possess the ASE Master Technician for Medium Heavy Truck certification in areas T1 through T8 or obtain it within 2 years of the hire date.

  • Online Information Management Systems - Experience with Self-Service or other online information management systems used for student advising, student programs, grading, class schedules and rosters
  • Blackboard Ultra - Experience with Blackboard or other web-based course - management systems
  • Technology-based Instruction - Experience with technology-based instructional delivery systems including SMART symposium, interactive touch screen monitors, LCD projectors, DVD players and/or other classroom technology
  • Emerging Technologies - Experience with emerging technologies (e.g.. social networking applications)


Supplemental Information

Start Date
This position supports the Manufacturing, Construction, and Transportation (MCT) Pathway and is available to start in January 2026 for the Spring 2026 Semester.

Hours
This position is a in-person, part-time (0.5 FTE) position. The number of hours worked per week will vary based on course load, enrollment, and departmental need. Work is conducted during scheduled course hours, Monday-Friday.

Salary
Beginning in the fall of 2024 the starting hourly wage for all part-time faculty is $40 per course hour of teaching. Part-time faculty are also compensated for an additional 45 minutes of time for each hour of instruction to cover office hours and prep time which is equivalent to $70 per hour. This starting hourly wage of $40 an hour is non-negotiable unless market conditions dictate otherwise.
