Job Summary
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is looking for a PA in Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery. This position is responsible for providing both primary and specialty medical services. This position may be required to access and administer medications within their scope of practice and according to state law.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
- Takes complex medical histories on patients
- referred for consultation by academic and
- community physicians.
- Performs physical examinations.
- Orders laboratory tests, x-rays, special imaging
- studies and other diagnostic procedures.
- Orders and supervises the administration of
- blood products.
- Reaches tentative diagnosis of medical, surgical
- and other conditions.
- Develops treatment plans in conjunction with an attending physician.
- Admits patients to hospital and rounds on patients in hospital.
- Interpretation of radiology studies, reduction of fractures and dislocations.
- Assists in operating room under direction of an attending physician.
- Participates in continuing medical education to include specialty and sub-specialty meetings and conferences.
- Assists in the collection of data for research projects.
- Orders consultations and interacts with members of other specialty medical teams.
- Participates in special projects and committee functions.
- Problem Solving
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.
- Ability to provide care appropriate to the population served.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on their assigned unit.
Minimum Qualifications
Required:
- Current licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant from the State of Utah.
- Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
Preferred:
- Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. - Pediatric Orthopaedic experience ideal.
- Neuro or inpatient experience preferred.

Work Schedule Summary: Variable shifts including daytime hours, evening and overnight call for Pediatric Orthopaedics.8 night call shifts per month inclusive of one weekend per month.Shifts average 14 hours each but are continuous 24 hour coverage on weekends. Some weeks may be more for training and education, etc.

Pay Rate Range: $122,000-$166,000 DOE plus compensation bonus and incentive structure and addt'l pay for call shifts
