Position Announcement
The Spanish Program - housed within the Languages and Cultures Department at Utah Valley University - invites applications for one Tenure-Track Assistant Professor and a high school liaison, beginning August 1, 2026. Pay will depend on experience.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Teaches a variety of upper and lower-division courses in the Spanish program. Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of study that includes measurable learning objectives for each course taught. Prepares instructional materials. Evaluates student performance using appropriate testing and grading procedures. Teaching is the primary emphasis of this role.
- Serves as UVU's Spanish program high school liaison, which includes UVU classes in high schools through the Concurrent Enrollment and dual-language immersion programs (Utah's "Bridge" program). Revises curriculum and proposes new courses. These duties are the secondary emphasis of this role.
- Engages in scholarly activities, including research, and produces scholarly work consistent with the academic goals of the department. Preference is given to scholarly focus on teaching.
- Serves on committees at the Department, College, and University level and/or pursues other service opportunities in the community related to their field.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
A PhD in Spanish language pedagogy, linguistics, second-language acquisition, or another related field is required (must have degree in hand by August 1, 2026). Evidence of potential for scholarly/creative work consistent with a teaching university.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Expertise in teaching Spanish language pedagogy.
- Scholarly focus on Spanish language pedagogy, linguistics, or second-language acquisition.
- Experience coordinating post-secondary programs that are embedded in high schools.
- Experience teaching at the high-school level.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Knowledge of program development and evaluation, and curriculum development.
- Knowledge of principles and methodologies of language-learning and teaching of the Spanish language and course content.
- High proficiency in spoken and written Spanish.
- Collegial and capable of fostering meaningful partnerships, relationships, and connections within the community and program.
- Skills in instructional strategies and techniques of student-management, motivation, and evaluation.
- interpersonal problem-solving, decision-making, and supervisory skills.
