Job Summary
As a Security Sergeant, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Campus Security team at the University of Utah. This role requires exceptional leadership skills, effective communication, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to safety. You will play a critical role in ensuring the success of our organization.
Safety is a top priority for the University of Utah. The Chief Safety Officer (CSO) for the University is the Director of Public Safety and serves as chief of police services. The CSO is responsible for overseeing the University's Department of Public Safety, which includes the following operational divisions: University Police, Campus Security, Health Security, Emergency Management, Emergency Communications, and the central administrative Office of the CSO.

Responsibilities
1. Supervise a team of security officers and corporals and ensure they carry out their duties effectively and efficiently.
2. Maintain an organized shift schedule and confirm that all posts are adequately covered.
3. Manage and approve time-sheets to ensure accuracy and timely submission.
3. Ensure adherence to established rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
4. Provide direction to the security team under your charge and give clear instructions on their responsibilities and tasks.
5. Conduct regular audits and patrols and respond appropriately to any security incidents or emergencies.
6. Coordinate the administration of discipline and evaluations.
7. Investigate incidents, accidents, and report findings to management.
8. Provide security training and guidance to security team, and create awareness about security policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); five years experience in the position of security corporal or related management experience or equivalency; a proficient knowledge and understanding of current electronic security equipment (proprietary alarms, CCTV systems, computers, etc.); and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required. Combination of campus and hospital security experience is preferred.

1. Strong knowledge of security and safety practices, procedures and regulations.
2. Excellent leadership skills and the ability to communicate effectively with staff and management.
3. Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze data and make informed decisions.
4. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle emergency situations calmly and effectively
5. Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
