Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The Associate Dean of Nursing & Health Sciences (NHS) will assist the Dean of NHS in providing leadership in the ongoing development of innovative and current curriculum in the following programs: Central Sterile Processing and Distribution, Certified Nursing Assistant, Clinical Laboratory Science, Computed Tomography, Dental Hygiene, Eye Care Assistant, Health Office Assistant, Health Information Technology, Hearing Instrument Dispensing, Long-Term Care Administration, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Mammography, Medical Assistant, Medical Billing, Non-Invasive EKG, Nuclear Medicine, Nursing, Ophthalmic Technician, Patient Care Technician, Phlebotomy, Physical Therapist Assistant, Physician Coding, Radiation Therapy, Radiography, Respiratory Care, Sonography, Speech Language Pathology Assistant, Surgical First Assistant, and Surgical Technology. The Associate Dean will serve as the Nurse Administrator for the Nursing program, provide administrative and instructional leadership to the adjunct faculty and staff in the division, and serve in an advisory capacity to the Dean of NHS. The Associate Dean reports to the Dean of NHS and is a member of the Academic Affairs leadership team.
- Assist the Dean in development and implementation of long-range plans and programs for assigned division.
- Seeks opportunities for program growth and evaluate outcomes.
- Maintain current knowledge of program rules and regulations and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local accreditation, certification and/or licensing requirements.
- Conduct the divisional syllabi review.
- Collaborate with Department Chairs, Division chairs, and Dean on the academic schedule and teaching assignments
- Assist Dean with divisional meetings to apprise the faculty of institutional plans, activities, and expectations.
- In collaboration with the Dean and Chairs, actively recruit and interview full-time and adjunct faculty for all programs.
- Orient, evaluate, supervise, and encourage professional development of adjunct faculty, assigned staff, and nursing full-time faculty.
- Encourage and support implementation of teaching activities that promote learning-centered education.
- Collaborate with the Adjunct Faculty Support Office on various initiatives and engage in post-observation meetings to support professional development and foster a sense of community among part-time faculty.
- Serve on faculty and administrative committees and participate in appropriate speaking engagements, conferences, recruitment, student, or fund-raising activities.
- Support the dean in coordination and management of divisional budget and capital acquisitions as well as any federal and state grants.
- Manage divisional facilities and equipment, including maintenance and control of inventory, as assigned by Dean.
- Develop reports that summarize the progress, problems, and prospects of the division, as requested by Dean and Vice President of Academic Affairs.
- Oversee development and regular integration of program advisory committees.
- Assume special responsibilities on assignment from the Dean and the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
- Manage and resolve student complaint process for adjunct faculty and ensures a learning environment in which all students are treated equitably and with respect.
- Serve as the Administrator in Charge in the Dean's absence and attend meetings on behalf of the Dean, as needed.
- Represent the college in manner, appearance, and behavior that promote a positive image of the college within the community.
- Administration, development, and supervision of all Nursing programs.
- Assignment of didactic, laboratory, and clinical teaching loads, for all nursing faculty.
- Maintenance of committee assignments, including request to Committee on Committee for faculty members to serve on said committees.
- Supervision of work assignments for Manager of Simulation, Laboratory Learning, and Nursing Program Support Specialists and Nursing Program Chair (ADN and CNA programs).
- In collaboration with the Nursing Program Participation Committee, oversees nursing student admission approval process through selection of new applicants.
- Management of nursing budgets and capital acquisitions.
- Leadership of nursing program approvals and accreditation processes.
- Oversee procurement and evaluation of clinical sites for all nursing programs.
- Lead nursing faculty to pursue appropriate grant funding and professional development opportunites.
- Oversee curriculum, nursing student progress, and student performance issues.
- Oversee procurement and maintenance of clinical affiliation agreements; assure nursing faculty and student compliance with placement requirements.
- Evaluation of nursing programs, goals and outcomes.
- Prepare annual reports to regulatory and accrediting agencies, and responsible for accreditation self-study document preparation and site visits.
- Promotion of nursing departmental efficiency and effectiveness of operations and resource utilization.
- Oversee division planning of the bi-annual nursing pinning ceremony.
- Chair Nursing Full Council and Nursing Advisory Committee meetings.
Required Qualifications:
Education
Master's Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university required.
Current active license as Registered Nurse in Illinois or license-eligible required.
Doctoral Degree in Nursing or related field from an accredited college or university preferred.
Additional coursework or advanced degree in education, health science, or related discipline preferred.
Experience
At least 3 years' experience as RN; 3 years of FT teaching experience in a nursing program required.
At least 2 years administrative/management experience in an educational setting and knowledge of trends and developments in nursing education required.
Previous experience as program director/coordinator/chair preferred; knowledge or experience with a nursing program accreditation process (ACEN preferred) preferred; knowledge or experience with self-study preparation preferred; ability to guide faculty through accreditation process preferred.
Dynamic leadership, excellent communication skills, flexible, and able to be a collaborative team player required.
Demonstrated commitment to student success, outcomes-based education, and sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of a diverse population required.
Successful experience in staffing, evaluating, and leadership, in a union environment preferred.
Community college experience and online education experience preferred.
Higher education administrative experience preferred.
Working Conditions:
Standard office and instructional equipment. General office environment. This position requires a background check and drug screen.
Pay Grade:
Starting pay begins at $112,170 based on experience.
Competitive starting salaries are dependent on education and experience. College of DuPage also offers a generous benefits plan.
