Position Announcement
Utah Valley University is seeking a strategic and relationship-driven Assistant Director of Leadership Annual Giving - Alumni Relations to advance the mission of the Alumni Relations team. This position plays a key role in fostering a culture of engagement and philanthropy by managing the Alumni LAG portfolio, cultivating donor relationships, and implementing innovative fundraising strategies. The Assistant Director oversees annual and long-term giving initiatives, develops stewardship plans, and ensures smooth donor pipeline management through multiple giving platforms.
With responsibility for leading alumni giving strategies, coordinating fundraising campaigns, and partnering with campus and alumni networks, this role offers the opportunity to make a measurable impact on donor participation and retention. Summary of Responsibilities
- Responsible for the development and implementation of alumni annual giving and long-term giving strategies designed to determine and track UVU affinity, create philanthropic awareness, engage new and current donors, manage the key alumni list, increase donor retention and participation, solidify stewardship plans, achieve metrics, and track results.
- Cultivate relationships with alumni annual giving level donors through portfolio pipeline, campus partner connections, alumni and student events, direct mail, email, and text. Track alumni outreach, cultivation, and stewardship to ensure current and potential donors are solicited to secure new/annual giftss, invited to events, and stewarded properly.
- Collaborate with and advise Directors of Development, Alumni Relations, alumni chapters, Alumni Relations Advisory Board, GOLD Council, and campus partners to develop campaign strategies that build affinity and encompass the donor cycle: cultivation, solicitation, retention, and stewardship as well as ensure university policy is adhered to in receiving donations.
- Other duties as assigned, which may include supporting university-level and Annual Giving priorities in engagement-focused events, and seeking opportunities for professional development that will enhance job performance, including building networks within the University and with colleagues at peer institutions.
- Perform other job-related duties, as assigned.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, Finance, Communication, Non-profit Fundraising, Public Relations, English, or a related field, or equivalency and two years of experience in fundraising, marketing, sales, business, public relations, annual, corporate or foundation giving, or a combination of education and/or experience totaling six years.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in development, annual giving, alumni relations, and higher education.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Knowledge
- Knowledge of soliciting diverse groups and best practices for annual fundraising programs, alumni engagement, event management, and marketing.
- Evidence of experience or significant professional development with an institutional advancement, business, marketing, nonprofit, or higher education focus.
- Experience creating, writing, editing, and managing direct and digital cultivation and solicitation efforts, including direct mail, email, social media, and internet advertising, with demonstrated ability to successfully solcit and close annual fund gifts with clear metrics of success.
- Innovative, strategic thinker with the ability to successfully manage multple projects in a fast-paced environment with a strong work ethic, innovative and creative mindset, robust attention to detail, superb organizational skills and analytical abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to establish, cultivate and steward strong relationships with students, donors, alumni, campus partners, peers, and friends of the institution.
- Intrinsically motivated and able to create innovative ideas to achieve results. Recognizes and seizes opportunities.
- Ability to work independently, problem solve, take initiative, set priorities, handle multple projects efficiently and effectively, and track results. - Strong interpersonal skills and customer service. Poised professional manner with the ability to express oneself clearly and empathetically in interactions with others in all forms of communications, verbal and written, one-on-one and groups, etc. Ability to communciate in a direct and professional manner that engages dialogue ina way that resolves differences.
- Demonstrated competency with a comprehensive and contemporary donor database system such as Blackbaud Rasiers' Edge.
- Strong skillset with Microsoft Office, particularly the ability to utilize Excel to manipulate and analyze data, utilize formulas, and manipulate pivot tables.
