Position Announcement

Utah Valley University is seeking a visionary and collaborative leader to serve as the Director of Teaching Effectiveness and Fellowship. Reporting to the Senior Associate Provost for Academic Programs, Assessment, and Accreditation, this position plays a pivotal role in advancing instructional excellence across the institution. The Director provides strategic leadership for faculty development initiatives, overseeing the design and delivery of evidence-based programs, teaching fellowships, and cross-disciplinary learning communities that support innovative, inclusive, and student-centered pedagogy.

Summary of Responsibilities


  • Provides visionary leadership in the strategic planning, coordination, and implementation of comprehensive faculty pedagogy initiatives that advance the university's mission of transformative teaching and learning excellence. Collaborates with Academic Affairs leadership to design, implement, and sustain signature programs, workshops, and interdisciplinary faculty learning communities that address different pedagogical needs across academic disciplines and teaching modalities. Drives the integration of evidence-based instructional practices to enhance teaching effectiveness, foster academic innovation, and enhance student learning and achievement outcomes. Leads continuous improvement efforts through the collection and analysis of impact data, ensuring alignment with institutional goals related to student success and academic quality.
  • Leads efforts to identify, engage, and mentor faculty champions and disciplinary experts to build a distributed network of pedagogical leadership across campus. Oversees the development and curation of robust teaching resources, adaptable toolkits, and research-informed frameworks that support faculty in elevating their instructional practice. Designs and implements tiered pedagogical development pathways tailored to various career stages, from new faculty onboarding to mid-career renewal and senior faculty innovation, ensuring that support is developmental, personalized, and scalable.
  • Leads the development of strategic communications and campus-wide outreach initiatives to elevate the visibility, influence, and impact of the Office of Teaching and Learning. Oversees the development, curation, and continuous enhancement of content that effectively promote pedagogical development offerings and resources. Designs and implements recognition initiatives that recognize and amplify faculty contributions to pedagogical innovation.
  • Oversees budget and staffing for Teaching Effectiveness and Fellowships. Directly supervises staff members and holds regular meetings to maintain currency with best practices, higher education trends, and scholarship related to faculty excellence in teaching. Identifies and implements strategies that improve team functionality and task performance.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a PhD degree in a related field plus a minimum of five years of directly related experience.

Knowledge

  • Deep understanding of evidence-based teaching and learning practices across multiple modalities.
  • Knowledge of faculty pedagogical development theory and practice, including adult learning principles and effective strategies for supporting instructional improvement across faculty career stages.
  • Familiarity with higher education structures, trends, and accreditation expectations, particularly related to teaching effectiveness, academic innovation, and faculty engagement.
  • Understanding of strategic planning and assessment methods related to program development, impact measurement, and continuous improvement in academic environments.
  • Awareness of emerging trends in pedagogy and their implications for student learning and faculty development.
  • Knowledge of institutional communications strategies for elevating faculty work and promoting academic initiatives across different stakeholders.
