Bucknell University's Department of Sociology & Anthropology invites applications for a tenure-track position in Quantitative Sociology beginning in the fall semester of 2025. We anticipate hiring at the Assistant Professor level. We seek candidates with a strong quantitative methodological orientation, preferably those who work with big data. Topical focus is open, though candidates with a specialization in urban sociology, housing, data justice, and/or gender and sexuality are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be prepared to regularly teach two methods courses required of Sociology majors: SOCI 208: Methods of Social Research and SOCI 209: Quantitative Data Analysis as well as Introduction to Sociology and courses in their areas of specialization.
We are especially interested in candidates whose teaching and research will contribute to the Department's commitment to both diversity and academic excellence. Evidence of teaching experience and excellence, as well as the promise of being a productive scholar, are critically important. We have a strong preference for candidates who show a commitment to student-centered pedagogical and mentoring practices, and supporting students from historically marginalized groups. The teaching load is five courses over two semesters. By the start date of the position, candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. in Sociology. Candidates in the final stages of their dissertation may be considered, but must complete their degree in their first year at Bucknell to continue employment after the first year.
