Job Description Summary
The Assistant Director of Annual Giving is a member of a specialized team of professional fundraisers at Penn's School of Veterinary Medicine. The Assistant Director is responsible for the execution and expansion of Penn Vet's $1.3M+ annual funds under the direction of the Executive Director of Advancement Operations and with support the Associate Director of Advancement Services and the Associate Director of Donor & Board Relations. The goals include building and maintaining a success renewal program for Penn Vet's loyal continuous donor base and the management and expansion of the grateful client acquisition program, including comprehensive analytics. Penn Vet's annual fund program is all inclusive; building support for its school, its two hospitals, its scholarship program and its research program.
Job Description
Job Responsibilities
- Continually explore best practices to enhance and expand Penn Vet's annual fund program targeting friends, alumni, parents and grateful clients as well as staff and faculty. Prepare original and draft copies of correspondence to donors and others, including weekly acknowledgements; Coordinate the creation and execution of the annual production chart of solicitations for both renewals and acquisition programs: direct mail, email and texting; Help design, proof, and execute all solicitations; Manage timeline to ensure that all deadlines are met; keep the annual fund calendar for the department.
- Collaborate with the major gift team to engage and solicit high end annual giving donors with the goal of eventually moving them toward a major gift; Assist with campaigns for Class Reunion giving, including the coordination and distribution of Class Agent and Reunion materials (informational mailings, solicitation letters and manuals); Manage and expand all aspects of the Pet Memorial Program, giving to the memorial walls; and the Legacy Paver Program to attract gifts in the $5K-$25K range.
- Manage and expand the grateful client acquisition program through creative new strategies. Help train and work with the hospitals' frontline staff to understand their role in Penn Vet fundraising efforts and lead efforts in staff/faculty giving campaigns.
- Assist with events.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science and 1-2 years of experience or equivalent combination of edcuation and experience is required. 3-5 years of experience in annual giving, preferably in a grateful client and/or higher education environment, is strongly preferred.
- Comprehensive knowledge of annual giving best practices, including analytics.
- Knowledge and experience with donor database systems and software packages especially in Windows environment. Salesforce experience is a plus.
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to organize tasks and priorities, and to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to take initiative and assume responsibility for support functions.
- Ability to work in small office environment with team approach.
- Interest in and passion for Penn Vet's mission.
- Ability to handle multiple deadlines simultaneously.
- Ability to use discretion when dealing with confidential and sensitive data
- A valid driver's license is required.

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, and in alignment with salary ranges based on external market data for the job's level.
