What We Are Looking For
The Director of Pre-Award Administration is a member of the OVPR Research Administration leadership team at Baylor University. This role is responsible for managing and supervising all pre-award functions related to extramurally sponsored grants and contracts. The Director oversees two teams, Pre-Award University Research Administrators and Pre-Award Central Administrators, ensuring effective delivery of pre-award services to faculty, including budget development, proposal review, and proposal submission.
Remote work is available for this position with occasional travel to Waco.
A Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant work experience are required. A Doctoral degree and ten years of relevant work experience is preferred.
A combination of education and experience will be considered in lieu of the degree requirement.
*All applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
What You Will Do
- Manage and oversee all pre-award operations for sponsored projects, including staff supervision, workflow management, and the preparation, review, approval, and submission of grant and contract proposals across diverse funding sources
- Interpret sponsor guidelines and university policies to ensure compliance, provide written feedback, and coordinate with principal investigators, departmental staff, and related offices for accurate and timely submissions
- Serve as a liaison between the university, external sponsors, and internal teams throughout the proposal and award process, including facilitating post-submission updates and smooth transitions to post-award management
- Lead, mentor, and support pre-award staff
- Provide training and outreach to grants staff and faculty
- Participate in the development and continuous improvement of standard operating procedures and pre-award processes
- Maintain accurate proposal records, verify institutional commitments, track and report proposal data
- Support special projects or additional duties to ensure efficient and compliant research administration
- Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor's mission

The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $115,000 - $120,000. The full salary range for this position classification is 74,260.16 - $122,529.27
This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certification, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs.
