Position Announcement


At Utah Valley University, the Post-Award Financial Services Accountant supports research, innovation, and academic growth by overseeing the financial operations of the Office of Sponsored Programs. This position ensures that externally funded grants and contracts are managed with accuracy, accountability, and in alignment with institutional, state, and federal regulations. By collaborating with departments across campus, the manager helps ensure compliance and financial integrity for a wide range of public and private awards that fuel scholarly work and institutional progress.

This is a highly impactful role for someone who excels in financial management, cross-functional coordination, and regulatory compliance. The successful candidate will join a collaborative team dedicated to enabling the university's mission through sound stewardship of external funding. This position offers the opportunity to directly support the advancement of UVU's research and community engagement goals while fostering best practices in grant and contract administration.

Summary of Responsibilities


  • Manage post-award grant and contract accounts to include: expenditure monitoring for every cost item for all institutional grant accounts and all external sub-awards and sub-contracts; assure compliance with federal, state, and institutional policies and regulations; create, monitor, and approve index requests, budget allocations, purchasing activities, payroll action activities; and coordinate the completion of the subrecipient commitment forms at submission and annually after award. Perform annual risk assessments on all external sub-awards and sub-grants. Work closely with the UVU Office of Procurement to ensure that all items of equipment purchased through sponsored programs are handled in accordance with federal regulatory standards and contractual terms and conditions.
  • Conduct an institutional time and effort management process for all sponsored programs to report personnel activities on grants and contracts; conduct internal financial audit assessments for sponsored program award recipients, sub-contracts, and sub-awards; prepare evaluation reports of time and effort activity, and audit findings.
  • Provide training and assistance to award recipients to resolve problems with tracking, monitoring, and utilizing funds from sponsored program sources; prepare budget information and expense reports for annual and final reporting activities; review and recommend approval of grant budget modifications and change requests; assist with financial closeout processes; and manage financial database information to be used by all Sponsored Program post-award offices.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.


Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field plus two years of related experience OR a relevant combination of education and work experience totaling six years.

Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in business, accounting, finance, public administration, or related field.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Knowledge
  • Knowledge of government granting, contracting, and administration practices and procedures, legal compliance, federal grant & contract policy including Federal Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Uniform Guidance, state and private foundation funding practices and procedures related to financial grant and contract management.
  • Knowledge of accounting practices at a university.
  • Knowledge of computer database management systems, accounting software, and grant administration tools.
Skills
