Position Summary:
CT State Norwalk relies in part for the funding of programs and operations on funds provided by grants and gifts from government agencies, and foundations. Norwalk Campus maintains a high level of visibility in the community through its campus foundation, engagement with community members and leaders, and a comprehensive marketing program. The Director of Institutional Advancement manages a comprehensive program to locate sources of funds, to prepare grant requests, to develop long term relationships with donor organizations and individuals, to solicit and to manage funds from these sources. The advancement function includes responsibility for corporate, community and public relations, events management, grant development and administration, alumni and constituent relations efforts, stewardship, and advancement services.
In collaboration with the Campus CEO, the Director of Advancement will serve as the primary liaison to the campus foundation and coordinates the mutual support required for the campus' and foundation's success.
Example of Job Duties:
Under the direction of the Campus Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Institutional Advancement is responsible for effective performance in these essential duties:
- Advance the mission, vision, and short and long-term goals of the college working closely in concert with the campus CEO, senior administrative colleagues, and foundation to identify and cultivate funding sources.
- Lead community and public relations activities on the campus to enhance awareness of the campus so that the service area views the campus as a viable source of investment and support.
- Manage campus's advancement grant process, including proposal development and reporting.
- Development, monitoring and updating campus strategic plans/goals and providing leadership for events to engage staff, student and foundation members in planning process.
- Establish and implement strategic alliances and partnerships with business, corporate and social agencies.
- Management of Department's budget and oversee grant reconciliation process in coordination with campus finance department.
- Devise and implement effective internal and external strategic messaging plans and methods of advancement communication.
- Support the advancement efforts of the campus foundation, where applicable. Including coordination of fundraising plans, annual/major gift programs, development of annual report.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer
In addition to the accountabilities listed above, the incumbent is required to carry out the essential duties of: Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies; Service on assigned committees and task forces; Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational and professional meetings. These may involve attendance at evening or weekend events.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with a minimum of five (5) years of experience serving as an organization's representative in the community and building strategic relationships with local and state government leaders, community groups, business and corporate partners and grantors; or a combination of education, training and experience which would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position's essential duties.
Incumbents are required to have demonstrated advanced knowledge and abilities in the following:
- Fund raising.
- Grant proposal writing.
- Public relations, marketing & event planning/management.
- Fiscal management and grant administration.
- Fund-oriented strategic planning.
- Experience working with/within an institutionally related foundation or a volunteer board of directors.
- Proven track record of grant management-including proposal development, drafting, tracking grant deliverables and ensuring accuracy of grant financial records.
- Demonstrate experience with the development of comprehensive and inter-related strategic and operational plans across multiple business units or multiple organizations.
- Experience with complex financial policies, demonstrated successful implementation of them, and monitoring to ensure accurate completion and submission of all regulatory requirements. Examples may include grant disbursements, financial statements, audits and investment reports.
- Experience with maintaining working relationships with financial consultants, including accountants, auditors, banks and investment advisers.
- Ability to develop annual plans and budgets for multiple, substantial, inter-related constituent units and to work within those budgets
Candidates must possess proven ability to effectively work with culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and students. They are expected to have excellent interpersonal oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams etc.).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in an appropriately relevant field.
Starting Salary:
Minimum Salary range; $80,901 - $86,320 approximate annual plus excellent State of CT medical insurance, retirement, and related fringe benefits. The salary will be based on the selected candidate's qualifications such as education and job-related experience, and internal equity.
