Job Summary
The Student Success Hub provides a collaborative structure for advisors to support students across multiple programs, a commitment to ongoing professional development, and a supportive leadership team dedicated to professional advising and student success. This position will serve as the lead advisor for Atmospheric Science students and will also be cross-trained and carry a caseload in Physics. May be cross-trained in other science disciplines as needed to facilitate students' access to high quality advising experiences while also allowing for variety and expanded opportunities for the advisor.
With minimal supervision, this position uses professional advising and guidance skills to assess diverse needs of students and provide appropriate advice related to academic planning and progress leading to degree completion. Contributes to the design, implementation, and evaluation of advising programs that contribute to the academic advising mission of the academic unit.
This position serves as a liaison to the relevant academic department to ensure communication around curriculum and to provide a feedback loop between students, advisors, and faculty.
This position will assist the University in promoting a climate of respect and equity that cultivates and sustains transformative practices by forging spaces of possibility where people feel valued and welcomed, respecting all students in their quests for individual success through degree programs, certificates, etc.

Responsibilities
1. Meets with undergraduate students to provide information and guidance on academic-related issues, such as graduation requirements and exceptions, and course planning and registration.
2. Facilitates students' academic progress by evaluating their needs and developing appropriate educational plans. Makes referrals for students who need assistance with overcoming learning obstacles, tutoring, career decisions, mental health, or other various needs.
3. Disseminates information to students, faculty, and departments about changes in major requirements or University policies and adjusts advising strategies as appropriate.
4. Uses enterprise-level data analytics and student record technology platforms (e.g., EAB Navigate) to monitor student progress. Participates in proactive advising and intervention strategies for assigned student populations.
5. Actively engages in campus-based professional development communities, including but not limited to UAAC or other relevant organizations, that advance direct skills in academic advising.
6. Proficient in degree tracking software, record keeping systems, and advising-related technologies
7. Maintains students' academic files that include a record of advising activity, referrals, exceptions made, transfer courses, etc. Actively engages with EAB Navigate.
8. Coordinates and/or participates in the advising-related portion of new/transfer student and parent orientation sessions.
9. Assists with data compilation, statistical reports, and correspondence, depending on the area of assignment.
10. Attends monthly staff meetings and trainings related to advising.
11. Develops and presents education programs designed to supplement or enhance academic preparedness.
12. Participates in local and national professional associations by serving on planning committees and presenting at conferences and seminars.
13. Significantly contributes to selection and training of new advising staff.
14. May mentor academic advisors and participate in hiring, training, and evaluating those employees.
15. Supports the Student Success Hub in appropriate outreach events and activities as assigned.
16. The position is distinguished from lower-level advising positions in that incumbents have responsibilities for program oversight, faculty interaction, and dealing with more complex advising-related issues.
17. Assesses the past performance of academic programs through program evaluations.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
- Two years of direct academic advising experience
- Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.
