The Associate Director supports community partnerships of the Melisa Nellesen Center for Autism, including its community education, training programs, and events, both on and off campus. This position serves as liaison with outside community agencies and works to achieve the University and Center goals regarding community engagement through the development and implementation of new programs; and may act as a community expert to public, media, and community partners, including public presentations at local conferences, guest lectures, and training for community entities.
Summary of Responsibilities
- Administration - Provides support for strategic planning, program mission, vision and values for Center outreach in the community. Promotes the visibility of the Center within the institution and within the community, including participation in autism related events, conferences, or educational information activities. Oversees the operating budget for community outreach programs and events; manages the adopted budget for the fiscal year. Pursues appropriate grant opportunities to support the Center community programs. Oversees community program staff within the Center. Performs curricular assessment in community services and reports on the operation of all community outreach supported through the Center .
- Community Partner/Liaison - Analyzes community need and conducts appropriate research efforts to identify needs and formulate plans to meet identified needs. As directed, seeks out partnerships within and outside of the institution for program implementation and enhancement. Stays abreast of current community events. Serves as representative of the Center on related committees/councils and contributes publicly within the autism field.
- Events, Activities, and Trainings - Stays abreast of current research, field development and best practice treatment and interventions for effective service delivery of autism related needs. Conducts general development activities to support community programs. Develops and implements new community outreach programs as approved. Oversees appropriate in-service training. Responsible for development, implementation, marketing, promotion, management, and ongoing maintenance of community focused training programs with outward facing reach .
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
Graduation from an accredited institution with a master's degree in a related field plus a minimum of five years of directly related experience. BCBA required.
Preferred Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited institution with a master's degree in an autism-related field (i.e. special education, mental health counseling, psychology, medicine, etc..) AND 8+ years of experience within the field. 5+ years of direct program management experience including budgeting, personnel and program development.
Licenses or Certifications
BCBA required
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Knowledge
- Knowledge and understanding of behavior analysis and best practices as it applies to ASD therapies and treatment options.
- Knowledge of organizational development theory and management practices.
- Knowledge of higher education administration.
- Knowledge and experience in development (fund raising) practices, policies and procedures with a history of successful results.
- Knowledge and experience in working within FERPA, HIPAA, ADA requirements and state regulation compliance and reporting.
- Knowledge of successful marketing principles and practices.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and management skills including strategic planning and prioritization, budget preparation, fiscal management, and at least 5 years of direct management experience.
- Records management skills, including FERPA and HIPAA compliant systems and state reporting systems.
- Skills in program planning, development and implementation.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong public presentation skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in the community.
- Ability to present effectively to small groups and perform services as a university representative, and proven track record of successful training/teaching experience.
- Strong demonstrated ability to supervise employees and comply with University, state and federal hiring policies/processes.
- Ability to provide guidance and leadership to community program personnel/faculty.
- Ability to gather and analyze statistical data and generate reports.
- Ability to foster a cooperative positive work environment among all divisions and within competing community entities.
- Ability to plan and implement short and long-range goals.
- Ability to develop effective work teams with the skills and abilities necessary to accomplish Center community goals.
