Position Announcement
As a Research Analyst at Utah Valley University, you'll play a vital role in driving data-informed decision-making that supports the mission and strategic goals of the university and the communities it serves. Guided by the Associate Director of Data Collection and Research, you will collaborate on meaningful research projects that span the full lifecycle-from defining research questions and designing methodologies to analyzing data and delivering actionable insights. Your work will directly contribute to institutional planning, program evaluation, and continuous improvement efforts across campus.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Conducts data collection efforts involving UVU constituencies, including the development, administration, and analysis of telephone and web surveys, focus groups, etc. and facilitates the utilization of these data through both written and verbal communication including presentations, executive summaries/briefs, data visualizations, reports, etc. Manages large-scale, reoccurring projects, initiatives, and development of reports.
- Collaborates with administrators and leaders regarding institutional reporting, business intelligence, strategic planning, assessment, and data-informed decision-making. This collaboration may take the form of informal meetings and communication or participation in more formal task forces and committee assignments.
- Extracts and analyzes institutional data used both internally for operational and strategic decision making and externally for informational and official institutional reporting to state and federal agencies, accreditation, program review, and other programs such as Student-Right-to-Know.
- Participates in professional development opportunities to (1) keep abreast of best practices and trends in the area of institutional research, and (2) to contribute to the field more broadly. Works closely and in collaboration with other IEE staff and internal and external clients to design and implement studies and reports to meet the growing and diverse needs of the University and its administrative units.
- Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
- Graduation from an accredited institution with a Bachelor's degree and five years of related experience. OR a Master's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Public Administration, Education Administration, Business Administration, Research/Evaluation and three years of related experience totaling nine years.
- Related degrees might include: Administration (Educational, Public, or Business), Behavioral Science, Research/Evaluation, Information Systems, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited institution with a Master's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Public Administration, Education Administration, Business Administration, Research/Evaluation and five years of related experience totaling eleven years.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Knowledge
- Knowledge of research/assessment design in social science, including questionnaire design, survey methodology, descriptive and inferential statistics.
- Knowledge and use of computer systems and software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Familiarity with SPSS, Tableau, Power BI, and Qualtrics, or similar tools.
- Familiarity with relational databases and structured query language. Familiarity with operational data stores/warehouse, meta-data, and data dictionaries.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of higher education and institutional research, including: current issues, trends, research, and best practices.
- Knowledge of championing data-informed decision making, practice, and professional development.
- Knowledge of artificial intelligence for the streamlining of data analysis and other work tasks.
- Skills in written communication, both in formal and informal contexts.
- Skills in the effective visualization of data.
- Skills in accuracy, attention to detail and clarity.
- Ability to lead a project from inception through the design, implementation, and extraction/collection of data, to the creation of the final report summaries, and presentation(s).
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to present themselves as professional, competent, and cordial.
- Ability to collaborate within the department and institution with data stewards and custodians, staff, faculty, academic leadership, and other officials at UVU and across the state.
- Ability to contribute to professional associates and best practices.
- Ability to communicate complex research designs and findings in simple, compelling, and actionable terms to decision-makers using business intelligence principles.
- Ability to work with a team as well as individually.
- Dedication to issues of privacy and compliance (including FERPA, HIPPA, etc..)
